the weight reduction of FR - S?
Hello everyone , this is my first time to post a topic since iI joined this club couple weeks ago. I wanna put some humor in my first topic so I hope no one gets offended.
After deployment, I purchased two cars which are FR-S and Prius C within 4 month. Prius C is paid off already but I don't think I will put any money on the modification of FR-S for a year. That's why I have been watching topics and drooling all over them. I have seen many topics about the weight reduction of FR-S. I really want titanium or carbon fiber parts even though they are hell expensive. I found very inexpensive way to achieve the weight reduction. It is drivers weight. If you trim down your body fat about 10lb, you will save about $400. If you do more than 20lb, you will save more than $1000 for light weight parts. I'm thinking about requesting a weight loss forum lol |

Yeah, but if you lost 20 lbs AND spent the $1000 on lightweight parts, just think how much faster it will be!!
But seriously, if you can lose some weight as a driver and still end up modding for weight reduction you're just that much farther ahead. Every little bit counts. I have the build of a horse jockey so it isn't even an option for me. If I lost 20 lbs I'd probably look emaciated. |

Yep I am in same boat. I weigh 175 and if I lost 20 lbs I would look like a stick man.
And I do love me some lightened parts!! For less expensive start with a light weight battery! |

What do you need the car to do in its lighter state that it wont do now? And how did you baseline the original performance specification that you are trying to improve upon?

Unless you're willing to live with a gutted interior and noisy car, weight reduction for the street is like chasing your tail. You're not really going to get anywhere.
The hood is already aluminum, so going cf is not going to offer any weight reduction. Maybe nose and front fenders from dry cf? But honestly, those are going to cost more than a turbo kit. You may not notice the 5 pound weight reduction from the body parts, but you'd certainly notice the 50+hp from a turbo kit. -Justin

Perhaps it can be staged;
Stage 1- lose 20 lbs Stage 2- get into shape Stage 3- take a HPDE course to best utilize the weight loss and physical improvement.

^ he has the right idea. I can lose 20 pounds safely, but reality means that some of the fat will be replaced by muscle if you do things right, which will make your net weight loss maybe like 10-13 pounds.

what if you sealed off the car and had a mask that picked up outside oxygen then pressurized helium into the car?
EDIT: did the math, the car would only loose 5 lbs from the upward force of helium
