Good articles, but kind of old. I understand that there's a trade-off between flow and filtration, but wonder if there has been any changes or improvements to oiled reusable filters.

Maybe somewhere in the middle ground might be the best.

Still waiting to see if anyone will post dyno results & long term results for the TRD filter: PTR43-00085 & MS155-00009

I would think TRD would have higher filtration than other brands.

Disclosure: I have no idea.
Aftermarket filters are a business. It is very easy to show a dyno graph displaying an increase in power over stock. There are no test results shown of filtration in the same advertisement.
My own schedule is to change the oem filter every 10,000 kilometers.
As I am fond of saying everything's a compromise

Has anyone with one of the twins had problems with dirty MAFs as a result of the oiled drop-in filters? I've been reading all over the interest about this issue including the wrx forums but haven't seen it anywhere here.

I installed an Apexi drop in and the car's response has greatly improved! I'm happy, for $60.00, a great quick mod

Not reading information about this anywhere, but has anyone tried the aFe 31-10094-1 in a 2014 or 2015?

I'm suspecting that the 14'/15' have a slightly different air box, I can't get mine to fit.
Not surprisingly, aFe is saying it's only for 2013's.

Hopefully someone can learn from my mistake if people can verify that the air box has a bunch of additional protrusions or whatever.

I'm not really sure how to upload pics, but if I could, I can show people the interference that my air box is having with the aFe drop-in. What a waste... :'(

@BaBaFlyingSheep
there is an orientation nub iirc.
also i believe the filter is side is supposed to face the front of the car, while the rubber side faces the back.

I've had myupgr8 filter in for about 10k and all seems well. I had a K&N before that, and stock before that. Noticed a VERY slight bump in power when switching to the K&N and no difference in power when switching to the upgr8. It's really a trade-off, though: More flow/power = less filtration/shorter engine life. That being said, if you want a drop-in, I'd definitely recommend the upgr8. Quality seems to be on par with the K&N. It's pretty hard to mess up a piece of foam in a rubber rectangle.

Give the ecu some time to catch on and those gains will disappear.

I would stay with oem for the sake of filtering more particules.

It happened on my 1999 toyota tacoma. But I have to admit it may have been my falt, I washed and re-oiled it and probably over oiled it but it only takes a slight res-ado.
