Black ice

I found out just how well, or not so well, the fr-s handles on black ice today. My car was sliding back and forth going about 5mph down the side streets in my area this morning. I feel like NY, especially Long Island, needs to step up their game when it comes to winter weather road conditions. They did absolutely nothing to clear up the snow and ice which built up early last night. Makes me want to move down south

I've been wanting to move south for years. I can't stand cold weather anymore, let alone snow. I find it more of a hassle then a wonderland (lol). We got a dusting last night, maybe 1/4in of snow, and the roads are white from the salt they put down, and yet there was no snow on it. I hate salt...

Wanna share a place down south?!

We had like 3 inches or so in my area on long island. The side streets were like an ice rink and the main roads were a salt bath. I'm about ready to pack up and leave lol

Sorry, but welcome to everywhere that gets snow. They even get it in the south every so often. Frankly, I'd rather be in an area that gets snow, with snow tires and be ready for it, than be down south with summer tires when they get a dusting and everyone forgets how to drive.

it's more so the lack of preparation that occurs in this area that gets to me. Nassau County is notorious for not giving a shit about anyone's safety when it comes to the roads. They don't take care of snow in an efficient manor, they leave traffic lights without power for weeks, potholes everywhere. They just don't care

Where are you? I'm in Nassau as well and I didn't have anything in the roads. Just a small coating on the grass.

its all about the money as usual. I'm in the 'village' of farmingdale and my landlord pays stupid taxes on the house. Our roads got salted and plowed for 3 inches of snow

Hell yeah. Ever heard of salt lick bbq? Out in the country in the middle of nowhere town. After some beef ribs and marbled brisket and sausage. The new asphalt windy drive back to town is just the perfectly fulfilling way to spend a sunny spring Saturday.

the city plays a minor roll in crappy weather conditions. it doesnt matter how much they invest into snow plows, there will ALWAYS be black ice at busy intersections. looks where i live :p any car handles fine with the right tires. brz is my daily driver, and this place is snow covered for at least 6 months.

And I am actually WAITING and hoping for snow! This car is absolutely textbook fun to drive in snow with proper tires. You just can't expect OEM summer tires to handle black ice.
