Hahahe, you're right. I don't know but I may pick up something used as everyone recommends as a first bike... Kawasaki Ninja 300. Or if I feel like taking the risk, maybe the new CBR300. Probably won't pick up something soon since I just placed my order for the BRZ, however I wanted to complete the class since I'm about to start a new job and it may take up my schedule and was afraid I wouldn't get a chance for a long while. I'm taking the test tomorrow, so hopefully I pass but don't feel extremely confident. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Open to opinions and suggestions...

If your new to riding, I would get a older ninja 250 or 500r for less than $2500. Not at all expensive to fix and when you decide to sell it, you will get all your money back on it. I had a Ninja 500r for about 8 months, great beginner/intermediate bike. Plenty of power, comfortable riding position, and light weight easy to handle. I have a 2006 Ninja ZX6R now.

i had recently taken that course. they had run out of the little books provided by the state. i took a gamble on taking the test without studying much and found it to be lots of common sense type questions. i wouldnt sweat it.

cant say what bike to buy as my brz became my new purchase

Any SWP or Whiteout drivers have clear TOM'S tails? Thinking about switching to these since everybody has the red ones now.

Ninja 500 is a good bike, I almost got one of these and sometimes wish I had.

Instead I did what everyone said not to and bought a brand new GSXR 600 off the showroom floor.
So far so good though. Over 2000 trouble and incident free miles. Recently took it to my first track day and had an absolute blast. The track instruction was invaluable and I will be going back for more next season.

If you are going to buy new, and since you are not in a hurry, I suggest looking into the brand new Yamaha R3 coming out next spring. Its going to be the absolute best "beginner" sport bike out there without a doubt.

If I didnt already have my gixxer this is the bike I would be getting!

Thank you for the input everyone.

Well, I wasn't the brightest student in my class or group, however I somehow managed with the zero experience I had. Went to the DMV to take another written 25 question test, and got 20 out 25 questions correct when I truly thought I was going to do much worse. Overall, everything was a challenge and required plenty of focus and concentration. Everyone seemed to catch on pretty quick, and I was fortunate enough to make it through as the slow turtle. I did struggle the most on the riding skills test. Had 12 points knocked off which isn't something to brag about. Oh well. I will work to get better. And of course, I'm thankful to have passed. Now to pick up a bike, eventually... And to look out for my new / updated license in the mail.

Great class, don't drop the bike on day two during the obstacle course! I took the class two summers ago, not the greatest idea lol. Like everyone said, just get a used 250 off of craigslist you'll outgrow them fast.
