Is anyone running a perrin oil cooler or any other T-stat oil cooler with the Vortech kit during cold winter(snow days)? I live in NJ & PA and it is really cold here in winter.

I know that the perrin oil cooler is T-stat, and the oil should not flow to the cooler until the temp reach 185F. However, is it actually work that well in real life?

A simple question is: Will the engine heat up as fast as a car without oil cooler?

Simple answer, yes. It works just like your radiator.

Even with the thermo plate there is a trickle flow to oil cooler to prevent air lock. So in winter it takes 2-3x a long to get up to temperature and when that cooler is in clean cold air it wont allow temps to get much above 165F during normal driving.

Thank you.

So it might be better to get 2 plugs from home depot and disconnect the pipe I think...

Huh. Thanks for the info, I apologize for being misinformed. I'm running the forester factory cooler so it doesn't really matter all that much.

Went through my first belt replacement this weekend - original one was starting to squeak quite a bit and figured it was time to replace it. Based on the original post, I got a bunch of the Gatorback 4060970 (replacement for K060970) at like 5 bucks each on Amazon. Figured I might as well stock up at that price in case I needed more later.

I've got the original pulley (3.48 I believe) and I'm not sure this belt is the right size - has anyone managed to get it on with the original pulley? I know that the original configuration called for the K060975 but I believe since belts were getting trashed, they started going with the K060970. The difference between the two is a little more than half an inch.

For reference, I'm trying to slip it over the alternator pulley as the last move while fully detensioning (that's a huge pain in the ass by the way). I was hitting the limit on the detensioner and there's just no way to squeeze that belt on the alternator.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Edit: I've given up - with the detensioner fully open, there's simply no way that the K060970 is going to fit on there. I tried from the alternator as well as from the smooth pulley by the AC. I'm going to have to go back to the K060975. When Vortech made the switch to the 97 inch belt, perhaps that was only meant for the upgraded pulleys and not the standard 3.48".

Edit2: The 97.5" belt went on without a problem. I guess the 70" is for the smaller pulleys, if you're on the base 3.48, stay with the 97.5" belt. Using the Goodyear/Continental Gatorback 4060975.

When I was changing my belt, I had one hell of a time getting it over the alternator. For me, it was easier slipping it over the blower pulley. I had an extra hand with someone holding the tensioner pulley while I slipped it over the blower pulley. I used the Autozone 3.8 Genesis belt. I forgot what the part number was.

Thanks, that would be the 97.5 inch belt which is what originally came with the Vortech. I ordered a couple of them and will put it on tomorrow.

I usually cheated on my belt swaps, I would undo the idler pulley next to the blower pulley and get the belt all slipped on, then bolt on the idler pulley. The change in angle of the belt causes it to be "shorter" when you try and slip it on a pulley. If the pulley is off, the belt can be properly aligned and then you just thread the pulley in while you have the auto tensioner released with your wrench. I ziptie the wrench to the bracket vortech has you bolt on that comes off the supercharger bracket and onto the timing cover area so I don't have to fight the tensioner.

I also want to say I removed the dipstick tube to gain more clearance for the tensioner/wrench, but its been a while
