Truth! Especially as it's marketed at a young crowd. They are destined to get wrecked, much like the WRX did when it was first released near this power and price.

I truly hope they totaled this car and he has GAP coverage so he could get a new one and not worry about the quality of the repair.

His "drives" entry now shows a Firestorm, and he wrecked a Whiteout, so I'm betting they totalled the Whiteout.

You are correct. The repair cost hit exactly at 70% value, so my insurance asked me what I wanted to do. While I felt bad totaling the car, I reminded myself it's just metal and bolts and it's better for resale and peace of mind in the future. Plus it got me into the seat of the new FR-S faster

King's Toyota treated me really well too. They transferred my warranty AND re-applied my college grad discount. So I ended up with a lower monthly payment and about $300 extra after it was said and done. Needless to say, they've won me over as a customer.

I didn't update the thread with the new info because someone seemed annoyed that the thread was still going :/

Traction control has not been turned off once and I have no intentions to.

well you will once you get comfortable with it. they placed a sports mode for a reason. drive with traction on for a few months to a year then try driving with sports mode after then drive that for a few months to a year then learn how to drive with traction off you will be good. that's what the setting are for. this car will teach a lot of drivers how to control a drift/slide after time passes.

Congrats bro. Glad you were ok and you got a new FR-S out of it. Cars get totaled all the time. The good thing is that you walked away.

posted this in the other thread but throw my car in there too, got hit by a truck two days ago minor damage to the passenger door and quarter panel. But they both need to be replaced completely.

I washed and waxed my car and took it for a spin, was pulling a left into a gas station. I thought the guy was letting me go since he was stopped at a stop light and he left a gap infront of him. His light turned green and I guess he didn't see me infront of him since he was so high up and just slowly pushed the door in. His truck had a scuff of red paint on it

Have to wait three weeks until the car is repaired

Or go to a track and learn with traction control off, like I did

It's actually very good that they totaled the first one. You won't have to worry about repairs even if they were done right. It would always be in the back of your mind. Plus, if/when you would decide to trade the car or sell it, the accident history would seriously hurt the value of it.

I had an accident in 2005 with a Tacoma D-cab with 4600 miles on it and it was very close to being totaled. I argued with my insurance company over diminished value and was able to convince them to declare a total loss. It benefited me too because I replaced it with a 2006 Tacoma D-cab and lowered my payment by $60 per month and got a brand new truck. (I rolled some negative equity over from my previous trade on the 2005, but had GAP insurance.)

Enjoy your new FR-S!

Wonder how much it'll go for @the junk yard?

Does it start and run?
