Is that a worldwide number?
Anyone know what the 86 pulls in comparison? I know it started off strong but has since trailed off quite a bit since.

The "trail off" it pretty much what they would have expected and planned for. The sales numbers for the first two year would expected to be much higher than the following years. When you consider that it was a new vehicle and there were zero used ones for people to buy at first then the high numbers make sense. If you go look at other vehicles sales numbers even during just a refresh year you will see the same pattern. The lower numbers do not necessarily reflect a drop in interest in a car but more that the market just leveled out to it's realistic demand. Add into this that ALL sporty cars sales are dropping by about the same percentage and the 86?BRZ sales fit right into the whole pattern.

Miata sales show the pattern really well.

The car companies know this and plan for it. As long as they are selling all that they make then all is good and as they expected. Low sales numbers only become an issue if they are building cars that are sitting in storage someplace since nobody is buying them.

Engineering Explained has a different take.

tl;dr

Low weight + manual = more fun.

+++

Also, I really want to see the 86 adopt that digital gauge cluster in the next 86. I really like the the big center tach and the simplicity of everything around it. .

SavageGeese is one of my favorite reviewers. However, I think he is unfairly biased against the Twins.

He bought a first year car (first platform year, not even just first model year) and threw a bunch of not-ready-for-primetime aftermarket parts on it and wondered why it wasn't reliable.

I think SavageGeese has an opinion that will stand the test of time: This thing is the best BMW M car for enthusiasts in 20 years, oh it's got a Toyota badge on it.

EE's opinion makes sense, he's a lot younger and still in the 'I wanna barebones sports car' phase, but I didn't bother watching his video. Mark's hard on the FRS/BRZ but I just think he expected a higher level of quality given that he grew up when Honda and Toyota were pouring tons of money into their platforms with high quality parts that stand the test of time, some companies still do that on a budget like Mazda but it's rare and Subaru has never been known for that.

Is that a phase? When will I grow out of it?
