tire pressure warning light kinda wonky?

Saw it come up today. checked my tires, all were about 30 psi. I heard 35 was a sweet point, but weather temps fluctuating a bunch so i played it safe and filled them up to about 40 psi.

lights still up O.o

If I remember correctly, I think my tires were at 28 psi when the light came on. Filled them to about 36 psi and the light was gone after a few minutes driving out of the station.

The light will turn on for over-pressure as well as under-pressure.

Yes, they light will stay on for a few minutes usually even after you put air in the tires.

Not usually. Depends on which type is used but most only fault for under pressure. The cheapo rolling speed type may fault for over pressure but the actual sensor type won't.

Mine went on at 28 PSI as well. I inflated them all up to 35 and the light went away without requiring driving. Check your tire pressure gauge as well, it may no longer be calibrated correctly and is actually reading lower than actual. My compressor has a digital gauge which was about 5 PSI off, so even after I had brought them all up to 32 the light wouldn't go off, then I got my analog gauge and saw that I was still low on one of the tires. Took them all up to 35 on the analog since the temperature's are still dropping here.

I was filling mine to 32 PSI, but when it started getting cold, the light would come on.
Just filled to 35 PSI and no lights for the last few days.

In my personal BRZ I had my TPMS light pop on about 3 weeks back, checked pressure and it was spot on at 35psi, next day the light was off. I thought it was a bit weird, but carried on as normal.
Started the car a few days later and it was back on, checked pressure again.. spot on. Getting frustrated, I took my anger out on the car and during a hard corner the light turned off again. Quite odd, and left me scratching my head...
Now just last week it came back on, again checked all tires and they were spot on, so I took my car to the local tire shop and they reset(or whatever they called it) the TPMS sensors, and the light has not been on for a few days now. *crossing my fingers*

I will update if it pops back on, but it is frustrating to say the least. I used to like the idea of a TPMS, but it seems mine is having some issues haha. I just don't like driving with the light on, and purposefully hitting any little bump or taking a corner hard to see if I can "feel" that the tire is low.

I just need to more and stop worrying about it I suppose!

Thanks,
Rick

Where is that written? Every time I've taken my car in for scheduled maintenance, the dealership puts it back up to 'manufacturer's recommended' which is 35psi.

This is incorrect. The factory recommended tire pressure is 35 psi and if you look in the door jam it will tell you tire size and tire pressure.

Also the way the system works is once the sensor read +/- 2 psi difference (from factory recommendation) the light will come on. Also keep in mind if you fill your tires up in the morning when its cold then go drive it far the air in the tires will expand with heat, changing tire pressure.

Anything over 35psi is way too high (35psi is high, my opinion). If you over fill you tire with air the tire light may also start to blink, this is a warning.
