As sais elsewhere, the flywheel effect of the driveshaft is low too because of the masses close to the centre of rotation...keep you money for you trackdays.

As most have already said in weight reduction cases you always want to think about your goals. Also...when you go removing crap, don't break it or sell it. You may want to put it back on because something annoys or bothers you or you want to put it back on for resale purposes.

Now...removing "sprung" weight is always more beneficial to performance. Wheels, tires, brakes, suspension components are in this category.

Obviously other, more "static" components (unsprung) weight has an effect but not to the level that "sprung" weight does.

I'd start with sprung weight (plenty of aftermarket pieces available) and once you have gotten all of those checked off, then start on other, smaller pieces for weight savings.

^^^this right here.

You can remove or replace the back seats if you wish, but removing them from the factory means the car will be a 2 seater rather than 2+2 for insurance purposes. Over the course of a few years, the insurance money will far outstrip the cost of putting in the seat.

I will never use them, but I'm thankful they were included.

Congratulations, both of you believe in a myth

The first weight saving mod I'll do is a light weight battery with relocation to the trunk. Will help slightly with weight distribution as well. The stock battery looks massive and sits really high.

Yea rear seat removal seems pretty pointless unless the car is track only. /thread

Yes but that would ruin the symmetry from the rear! It would look horrible. I wouldn't be able to justify the few kgs weight loss. Plus there's still a groove in the rear plastic part for the pipe.

Maybe I just view these things differently, aesthetics are a bit more important to me than a 0.05% increase in performance. If you were getting a dedicated track day car then I guess it would make sense. But if that was your goal wouldn't you FI it?

even a aftermarket dual exhaust will save about 10lbs from stock. it doesnt need to be single exit to lose weight. my j2 dual exhaust saved about 15lbs if i remember correctly. but saving weight is not my goal.

while making the delete i keep my goals in mind...

my goal is....
1) make sure no one can ever sit in the back seats (i dont like packing my car with heads, i even made my 98 and 99 explorer a 2 seater.
2) make it look clean enough that someone might ask if it was an option from the factory.
3) keep weight low without worring about going a few pounds over what the stock components weigh.
4) have a lockable storage compartment (since subaru couldnt put a friggin lock on the glove box)
5) get some bass out of the system
6) bass
7) BASS
did i mention bass?
