So soon im going to start preparing for the upcoming winter and this is my first RR drive car. Looking to get dedicated rims and tires for the winter. I actually wanted to use the stock rims and put winter tires on those and get a nice lightweight rim and tires for the summer. My question is for the winter should i go bigger or smaller with rims and tires or are 17s fine? should i get wider tires? what are the best winter tires to get? again im a noob at this so just looking for people who have experience and can give me some insight

Definitely do not go wider, same size or even one size thinner would be good depending on the rim width. 205-60-17? Go with an Extreme Winter Tire.

Michelin X-ICE 3 should be out, but if not X-ICE2 had good reviews.
Nokians are very good too. But any Extreme Winter Tire should do well.

Stock size is absolutely fine.

I would go with a full on winter tire if you live in areas that have snow fall.

We'll have tire deals around that time.

thanx guys..im from new york so each year differs..some winters we dont get anything crazy and some winters we do...i dont plan on driving when its snowing but if it happens to snow on a day im stuck with my frs i want to be prepared...def looking forward to some deals too!

I hear you. In Iowa we usually get dumped on. Last year was weak for snow fall. The year before that we got covered weekly with snow. And now currently in a drought so who knows what this winter will do.

I've used Bridgestone Blizzak WS60s and I thought they were great. They aren't super expensive either.

I've got the same plans as you - stock wheels with winter tires for snow season and then a lightweight set of Enkei's wearing either RS3s or Star Specs for summer. We don't get a ton of actual snow (none last year, really) but the low temperatures call for winter tires.

I'm thinking I'll go with the Blizzaks.

I have used Blizzaks every winter, and I know winters (Saskatchewan Canada). I drove a manual mustang GT for 4 years in winter and it was fun as hell, and the blizzaks worked their magic. Now my corolla has a pair and it keeps it on the road (tho not nearly as fun)

I look forward to the FRS in winter too
