Owning something doesn't mean it;s going to serve him better. AC is suggesting he purchase something that is more in his usage level - owning a high level turbo car with a built engine isn't for the faint of heart. If he isn't sure where to begin and is afraid of being compliant with CARB laws, this won't be rewarding for him.
I side with AC on this one - may be better off finding a car that already has the power and won't be a headache

You don't have to worry about silly smog legal nonsense, it has more hp right out of the box than any boosted 86.
Sure it doesn't look as good but eh? You got power to back it up.
A JRSC kit on an otherwise stock twin gives more power than WRX to begin with (260 vs 300 HP) and a twin is >500lb lighter. Plus there is no competition in handling; a twin is so much different than a WRX. A stock WRX (even an STI) is only better in trunk space and rear seats than an FI twin.

You have been around long enough to know all these but

Has SBD actually improved? Last I heard, their turbo kits were still causing issues.

Wrx FA20 DOESNT FIT in the FRS. The Starter motor is on the other side of the bell housing.
