There's no confirmation either way.

Another thing that prompted me to post this is I had a long chat with a Subaru sales manager last night (supposedly sold 18 WRX/STIs across a few dealerships last year and the dealership near me will be alotted 4 BRZs for the 7 month launch). He's a tech guy very familiar with the details on the BRZ (supposedly has mingled with BRZ engineers from Fuji Heavy at regional meetings and emails them). He's confident they'll put the turbo in; just doesn't know when Subaru will give the OK.

The reason he called me was to ask what specs I'd want if I were to pre-order (nobody has ordered yet) so I told him WRB Limited 6MT but I wanted to wait for special editions. He proceeded to talk about the turbo. Though it's speculation, it's a detriment to trying to fill his pre-order list. That says something.

No care, the Miata is the prince of roadsters.

That is actually more what I want. I don't want a midsize level of rear seating but a few more inches in the back would be nice too.

Hatch, hatch, hatch.
They would have to keep the same engine though. The moar HP guys can buy something bigger for all I care.

Agreed the Miata is the prince or princess of roadsters. Let's hope the next generation is badd asssed! Lets face it the Miata has gotten a bit bloated and soft over the years. Still a fun car though. Maybe the skyactive stuff will make this car into something else.

Which is precisely why the next-gen will focus more on weight loss than power gain. Maybe a SkyActiv engine will increase power, but the few things I've read about the next-gen Miata point to weight loss to put the car back in the spirit of the NA-gen roadsters.

I just hope it looks better and more meaner! I do want the Miata to be produced forever even though I would never buy one. It's still unique for what it is.

I cited that list of mostly four-seat convertibles because tripjammer wrote "A 86 convertible will have to be a two seater because the top will have to go somewhere".

Though MY2011 is it for the RX8, Harinjo wrote that he wants a 4-door 86. My point is simply that a car with similar dynamics (to a hypothetical 4-door FT86) has been around for the last 8 years, and brand-new leftovers are still available.

Sure a convertible FT86 could have a turbo. I'm not optimistic such a combination would be under $30k.

It would be be a unique 4 seater RWD low cost convertible...if they can keep the pricing under $30k...
I agree that roadster vs 2+2 coupe are significant differences, but multiple reviews have made comparisons between the FT86 and the MX5. For lightweight and responsive RWD dynamics at a reasonable price, they appear to be the only games in town.

On the off-chance anyone from Toyota/Subaru is reading this (is that you, Akio?) please build this.
