At a gas station, next to the air pump, pull the nail out and see if it leaks air (spit on it). If not, it didn't penetrate you're good to go. If it does leak air, use the tire plug kit you have on hand (they are like $5, so you should have one in your glovebox anyway) and plug it.
Don't let a nail sit in your tire. I have changed 10's of thousands of tires (AAA guy) and what happens is that the nail sits in there sometimes for days, sometimes for months- but at some point the tire will heat up and spit the nail out, then you will have a flat in a matter of minutes, maybe hours if the hole is in a good spot and the nail is small. Just take care of it today |
