DIY - BRZ Boomerangs - Brighter, Better
Yup. I've become a pro at removing/reinstalling the front bumper. I've retrofitted/ blacked-out around 20+ pairs of 86 headlights, so I know the process very thoroughly, and have gotten if down to a science. If I'm painting the housings the elapsed time is more around 4-5hrs, due to the extra time required to allow for the paint to dry. I actually have another 3 cars lined up for this weekend too. Retrofitting & painting the headlight housings black for an FRS on Saturday, and two more BRZ Boomerangs with blacked-out housings on Sunday. |

Since the last time I posted we've done another 5 cars. Did 3 of those 5 last Sunday within 12hrs, including blacking out the interior headlight bezels on all 3 pairs.

I hope you guys didn't install the assemblies back into the housing without removing the wires from between the two tabs... Otherwise the wires are going to be pinched the entire time. They need to be ran NEXT TO, not in-between.

I've been thinking about doing this myself, my only concern is the boomerangs being too bright at night for oncoming cars. For anyone that has done this mod: do the boomerangs seem too bright at night?
If they are too bright I thought I could easily use the DIM option of the FlexBlock with a transistor and potentiometer to dim the boomerangs some when the headlights are turned on. Any thoughts? Last edited by SoonerCory; 10-27-2014 at 01:42 PM. |

@SoonerCory the Boomerangs are as bright as the LED DRL's when on. So, No they don't "blind" oncoming traffic, plus they are the boomerangs that surround the headlights, which at night are on and probably more likely to blind the oncoming traffic. Once you do the mod, you'll ask yourself, why didn't I do it sooner.

@Acree no we didn't, those pics were prior to final assembly, prior to me pointing out that mistake & correcting it. Good eye though!

I will probably play around with the DIM input when I get the time to do this mod and if I end up using it I will post any good info I come up with. I've already wired the boomerangs to come on with the DRLs but they are just too dim during the day. Thanks to Acree for this thread and you for your input. |
