I've been on the job hunt for a while and I'm going back to school to pursue a degree that I can actually do something with instead of my previously useless major of Exercise Science.

anywho, I started looking at salaries for my job at other companies and in regional and national averages. long story short, I'm under paid by no less than $20K annually and in some cases much more.

it's just more proof of how mismanaged this steaming pile of chit really is.

Also I work for Library, so increase of property tax doesn't mean negative for me. (Library operate 90% through property tax) More money to buy materials, so patron can get their hands on... not everyone feel the same way, which I understand.
That more money from taxes would necessarily go to the library though. It would go to paying the higher wages. The alternative would be to keep the taxes the same and cut other services which could mean less money to the library.

The pay in Utah is lower but not the lowest.

$49,393

The average salary for teachers in Utah is $49,393, according to data released this week. Utah ranks 35th in the nation for teacher pay, and 18th below the national average, according to data released by the Washington Post, which surveyed teacher pay nationwide.

This goes back to my original post on the subject of wages though. The cost of living in Utah is way lower than many other places so looking at the wage in isolation of all the other factors is deceiving.
If you earn $50K in Salt Lake City then you would be grossly underpaid for doing the same job in LA or NY but well up if in someplace such as Kalamazoo. That doesn't even dive into differences in taxes and such.

IMPOSSIBLE!
A reliable source said we would never see that again in our life time.

Yeah I know that, increase of property tax doesn't always mean increase of fund for the library. Either way, every yr director go to budget meeting to request for annual fund and most of the time, they don't change the funding. (2yrs ago was the first request to raise the fund in 10yrs, which was approved) If you really try, you can prob find my annual income somewhere online. Cuz I work at the library, so my income is shown somewhere public (I found it several yrs back)

To add, good chunk of staff who work at the Library is under market value. That including me. How do I know that? Cuz last yr we got a small raise (which I'm not complaining) and HR send out all staff email showing, staring, maximum PLUS market wage in different job classes. Other than my boss, all the staff in my department was under market value. Not my few cents, but few dollars. Oh btw, I did double check if market value number was from Utah Library or whole US Library. HR claim it was Utah (FYI inside the SL County there are different Library system: City Library system, County Library system, Murray Library system, Marriott Library system and few other more)

My wife's sister is teacher and don't think she's getting paid that high. But of course, she only been teacher +-5yrs, so prob that might be the reason why.

In the end, if feel underpaid, just change the job. Simple as that. I get that. Just saying, it was interesting to hear ppl's term of under/fair/over paid for their jobs.

Wages are weird. I make more than my boss in the US but that is his fault for living and working in Detroit.

Yep, and good luck even trying it.

A few years back, I tried to retire, while mrs humfrz was still working. That didn't set all to well with her, although I was her senior by seven years.

So, I went back to work, for another 10 years. Then, I retired again. Then she decided to retire. I thought she would work 7 years longer than me, because I had been in the work force 7 years longer than she had been. WRONG, she didn't see it that way -

The problem is that people are acting like it is all of them. It isn't even all of the 13s.

My take on compensation, after about 50 years in the work force full time, is that it don't make much difference on how much you make as long as your basic needs (food, clothing, shelter, medical) are taken care of.

Why? Because you will spend as much as you make anyway -

I suggest it's more important to enjoy your work and your work environment, than your compensation.
