Ohh and LOL at the MTG card graphic...props!
WTF are you talking about?!?

Toyobaru joint project, but who's manufacturing / designing what?

Toyota owns a small share of subaru's parent company but nothing even close to the amount that would be needed to control Subaru and certainly not nearly enough to say "predominantly owns most of Subaru"

It's been interesting reading this thread and seeing all of the old speculation about how the cars just had to be different from each other, and seeing now how it turned out.

Toyota definitely doesn't predominantly own Subaru but I'd say 16.5% ownership of Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru's Parent Company) is relatively significant.

Also it has been pretty funny to see the differences between the speculation and what ended up happening. Back then I was convinced this car wasn't anything more than a rumor. Guess that means I drive a rumor. 😆

Toyota is the largest shareholder in Fuji Heavy Industries (Subaru's parent company) and does have a controlling interest.

I think it's incorrect that Toyota has a controlling interest.

Ok thats probably not as simple as that. They are in a deep interdependant partnership that is not just about the GT86. They share R&D and production capacity on several platforms. To say they don't influence Subaru would be incorrect.

He's right folks, and I was correct in my statement! There are several other platforms besides the FT 86 that are ACTUAL Toyota designs that are marketed in Europe and other places that are badged as Subaru's. I should know (work for Toyota), I just read we issued another 6 million cars worth of recalls, most of which are small cosmetic issues or noise complaint fixes, in 10+ models, over which at least half are Subaru's.

For instance: Subaru Trezia (Toyota Ractis - Rebadged)
