Are you guys on stock struts? I just reinstalled my warranty set along with Koni's and these are making noise again. I installed these with a wall mounted spring compressor.

I really want these to work I really like the idea of the parts. It seems putting a conical washer in would give a bit more clearance but it doesn't look like the Koni's have enought thread to make that safe.

I noticed, while installing mine, that it was easy for the strut rod to move to the side and to end up torquing the nut onto the bearing instead of the race. I had my hand tight and noticed that the bearing was just starting to bind. I loosened the nut, re-centered and tried again. This time there was no binding. I only have a few miles on mine, but so far so good.

Can you feel the noise in the steering wheel?

Not in the wheel but thought the rest of the car yes. I'm going to pull them apart tomorrow and try again.

I use a wall mount spring compressor so I'm going to try really pulling the spring down to get everything up top snug.

That was my problem aswell, I didn't compress the spring far enough and wasn't able to center everything during assembly. You could check it by lifting off the dust caps and checking to see if the nut is centered.

Thought about getting removers but a new key is cheaper, and if the remover doesn't work it leaves a mangled mess and then I would really be in a jam

UPDATE: Yesterday, I swapped the OEM tophats back on my Koni/RCE Yellows and the noise went away. I also noticed that the bearings on the Koyo-bearing COM-Cs will spin, but not smoothly, and they definitely don't spin nicely like the bearings on the OEM tophats. The clunking I had is also gone. I had the COM-Cs professionally installed a month or so ago, then reinstalled the OEM tophats yesterday using a spring compressor.

Contact Jan at @Whiteline they just got replacement sets in today. They sent me a email this morning letting me know a set is on the way.

That's good to hear, though I'm not convinced the next set won't do the same. What is her contact information?

REALLY???

You can do it all by hand. Subaru uses only enough preload to keep the springs seated. It's even easier if you have a buddy. Get everything aligned, then one person pushes down on the tophat and the other gets the nut started. From there you can use hand tools. Hell, I'm 250lbs so I was able to do it myself. There's no need to do something silly like lowering a car onto a disassembled strut.
