I have dash command on iPhone and iPad, works pretty well and what's really nice is that it's customizable. you can change colours, info displayed etc. can even download skins to make it look like Nissan Gtr or mclaren etc. Ive never used torque so not sure if it has that feature?

Despite lots of warnings that they don't work properly, I bought a cheapie Chinese clone mini ELM327 off eBay, and bought Torque Pro.

It arrived 2 weeks ago, and I tried to get the Bluetooth to work with my Samsung smartphone. To cut a long story short - hundreds of pairing attempts, lots of PIN code guesses, hours of internet research, many plan B's, and still no luck = mega frustration. Many times that dongle was within inches of the rubbish bin... I also tried pairing with Lindy's Samsung tablet without success.

Then along comes my son-in-law, and pairs his Samsung smartphone to it with his first attempt. He's tech savvy, so within minutes he'd downloaded a pirate version of Torque and it's cheat codes, and got it working perfectly on his phone.

Cool, now I know the damn thing works, and I know the PIN code is 1234. Son-in-law spends two evenings trying to get it to work with my phone and/or Lindy's tablet without success. He gives up... Back to square one. Son in law schemes he's going to inherit a free dongle soon.

So, in desperation, yesterday I tried it in my Forester. No luck, still gave invalid PIN code. Last night, I decided to have a final attempt, and the damn thing paired, but from about 15m away from the car.

I've since moved the dongle to my 86, paired and unpaired several times, and it works like a dream - except it'll only pair when standing about 15-17m from the car!! Closer or further away, it gives invalid PIN code.

Torque Pro is a very cool piece of software - enjoying playing with it.

FRED!!

This is the item. I bought it off Bid or Buy, but I'm not sure if this is the vendor I got it from though...
http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/10141...d_Symbian.html

Edited to change link above - I found the right vendor.

I have a thread dedicated to iOS devices running Bluetooth elm327 and dash command. You MUST jailbreak the iOS device if you're using the Bluetooth version of the ELM 327. I also use the Bluetooth ELM 327 to work with Torque on my Nexus 7. Torque provides far more data and a much more customizable user interface and the ability to add your own PIDs. The oil temp PID is by far the most important on the 86 platform and DashCommand doesn't support it.

Thanks, I'm using a smaller version and keep it plugged into the car. Connects without issues.
