The BIg Kahoona's Build
Decided to start a journal mostly because i'd like to hear the thoughts and opinions of different members. Hopefully i can learn from the more savvy guys here.
I sold my 2011 STI sedan to pick us the 86. I do miss the STI..it was powerful and a reliable car overall. Built engine. Spent more money on it than i'd like to remember. Sold it because i wanted a lightweight car. That's basically it really. Mod List: Electronics: FT86SpeedFactory Battery + Battery Tray Interior: Racesing 86 Shift Knob Zeta 86 Console Plaque Cusco Spin Turn Knob Toyota Knee Pads Drivetrain & Transmission: Forced Fab Transmission Mount Stiffener MTEC Shift Springs Exedy Stage 1 Clutch Exhaust: Borla Catback Engine: GFB Pulley Kit (crank alternator & water) Exterior: APR Front Splitter TRS Tow Strap Beatsonic Sharkfin Antenna Colin Tail Lights Brakes: STI Front Brembos TiC Master Cylinder Brace Hawk Ceramic Brake Pads Bosch DOT 4 Brake Fluiid Wheels: Enkei RPF1 17x8 +35 Pirelli Pzero 225/40/17 Muteki Lugs The 86 is currently my DD. The goal of the build is to lighten the car as much as possible. Right now i'm not sure if i'm going to go FI ...however i'd like to keep that option open. This car will be tracked, and track performance is my main goal. I have a fantastic shop to work with here (Tensai Tuning). Can't say enough good things about those guys. Top notch work and they value relationships over business (which ironically is one of the reasons they're so successful) Last edited by the.big.kahoona; 12-17-2013 at 03:26 PM. |

Part Reviews
Racesing 86 Shift Knob: A shift knob is always the first part i buy for a new car. Saw the Racesing 86 shift knob and it was just too good to resist. Looks great. Great quality as well. However i have to say overall i'm not very happy with this purchase. The knob is lighter than stock and feels kinda awkward to hold due to the sharp edges. Like i said though, great quality, and it's my fault that i ended up with a product that doesn't match my needs. Should have waited and bought the Raceseng Slammer! Borla Catback: No chance i was going to put up with the stock pea shooters. Immediately ordered a catback. So why Borla? 2 reasons: light & is not too loud. The Borla unit is about 28lbs if i'm not mistaken. Looks good too! Pretty happy with this. Fitment was not perfect, and i had to do some "adjustments" to get the tips aligned. Front Bumper Beam: AFAIK the front bumper beam doesn't add any structural rigidity. Off it goes. The rear one will be off as well. Yes i know, not the smartest move. Enkei RPF1: Lightest wheels at this price range. Not overly concerned with looks, so it was an easy decision to pick these up. I don't think they look bad, but they're definitely not the best looking wheels out there. Still happy with this pick-up! Muteki lugs look boss AVO Inlet: Kinda regret this purchase as it keeps the noise generator thing. Should have picked an inlet tube that deletes it. Oh well guess i'll have to get some plugs or something from Genome. AVO quality is great though TRS Tow Strap: Looks great, great quality. Cut a small slit in the plastic cover so that it sticks out Exedy Stage 1 Clutch Some good weight savings on a basic clutch kit. It's a bit noisy though. Thankfully, i don't care about NVH, so i'll just be happy with the weight savings bit Last edited by the.big.kahoona; 12-13-2013 at 08:11 AM. |

Sometimes i feel bad that i spend so little with them yet take up a nice chunk of their time with small jobs and tons of questions. They've built some of the baddest cars around, and well...this is the UAE so that's saying something |

Haven't had a chance yet to try out the Brembos/Hawk pads on the track as i've just had them on for a short while. Painted silver by the shop and they do look nice i must admit
