I've owned a porsche boxster s (a cayman equivalent for this discussions purpose) and an 86.

Boxster was a great car, absolutely loved it, no problems, fun to drive. I do think the cayman is the closest comparison to the twins you can find out there, but they are meant for different things so comparing them is kind of pointless.

I sold the boxster because

1) Tires, brakes, oil changes, etc were a bit excessive in cost for my 20k miles a year of sitting on freeway in stop and go traffic.
2) It attracted the wrong kind of girl - the gold diggers that weren't smart enough to realize you don't have to be all that rich to own a boxster and if I'm too cheap to pay for brakes on a boxster I'm not buying them jewelry

If you want a cayman and are ok with the extra cost, just get a cayman.
If you try to chase it by modifying a toyota you are just going to end up spending just as much money and having more reliability / maintenance issues so why bother?

If you are ok with less power and less fanciness, enjoy your 86 for what it is.

If not, pay the extra money and enjoy a cayman.

If you can't decide, buy both.

It'll be a supercharged Chrysler 300

I guess I should mention that I appreciate the 86, I just think it needs more power and grip. I picked it up new for 20k, so realistically after flex fuel and sc total cost should be around 30. My driving style is from karting, therefore I don't want a drift machine. I want a light, nimble vehicle with loads of grip and some power to exit the corner with from apex out. Aesthetics and creature comforts are a moot point. For me it is a tool. With that being said, which is the best tool? The 86 w/ sc and flex or a Cayman.

Thank you for the reply, however most of these are comparing standard twins to caymans where as I was looking for a comparison of (flex fuel w/ sc)twin vs cayman.

The fundamentals do not change. The FI Twin will just be a bit faster than the NA one. You are asking to compare a car altered to meet the same purpose as one that was ready to go from the factory.

No no no.
It is a group of British controlled islands between Cuba and Jamaica.

Don't you watch BBC Animal Planet? Buy a Jag F-Type instead. Jags are known to prey on and eat Caymans
