255 on stock suspension

Just bought a set of Work D9R 18x9.5 +38. Looked everywhere online to see if 255 tires would fit on stock suspension. I read that they fit with no rubbing issues and also read that you couldnt run them out all w/o coils. Does anyone know for sure if i could run this setup without coils?

There's a sticky for this. I'm going to say the clearance with the strut is going to be very close.

Keep in mind different tire manufactures have different tire widths for a certain size. For example Federals most people say run a size larger than what they are labeled

Next time check twice before buying. It'll save you time and money.

He has a bit widder wheel than yours and I am not sure about your offset. In any case, it is wrong to buy something and question afterwards if it fits in the car.

Great question. I don't know for sure, and would like to find out as well. I would like to run 255's on lowering springs/stock struts (or even on stock).

Right now I'm running Work Wheels T7R 18x9.5 +38, 245/35/18, totally stock and no rubbing what-so-ever. I have been meaning to measure if I can go to a 255.

The posts are not consistent on whether 255 will fit. Heck you can find many posts that say 18x9.5 +38 wheels won't fit on stock suspension and I have been running that for 10's thousands of miles.

The way I read his post is that he bought the wheels, which we know fit, and he is wondering about 255 tires, which he has not bought. Nothing wrong there.

If his wheels had tires, he could just bolt them on and see if they fit.

The topic says 255 on stock suspension. It doesn't say 255 on 9.5 wide wheels. You don't have clearing issues, but depending of how you drive you might have rubbing issues. The problem is the spring rates which can handle well up to 225-235 tires.

By the way, why are you guys going so wide? Is it for the looks or for performance? Going much wider and larger is not always optimal on a stock car and engine. There isn't much power on these cars. Check how much smaller is the max track speed below. The lap time is also worse:

Not a big deal, I was just pointing out that regarding the topic saying 255 was that he WAS asking the question of fitment before purchasing the tire. I'm sure you get it.

I don't have rubbing issues under any and all types of driving (245's, I have not tried 255's yet).

For me, I would want a 255 tire for looks. If I wanted performance, I would not be driving a BRZ.
