"Even though its Front Wheel Drive..." ???

As if to say FF cars have superior handling characteristics compared to other platforms?

the CRZ will produce 250ftlbs of torque starting at idle.....

140bhp + 250ftlbs of trq = omg throttle response

sure it will be FF but both engines (motors) will be used at the same time.

the car will be extremely light weight and its replacing the s-2000...it will have a stiff chassis no worries.

wow where did you get those numbers from? I believe the torque is suppose to be 107 lb-ft plus 57 lb-ft from the IMA.

That is nowhere near the truth, sorry. The S2000 replacement was canceled. I'd really like to know where you got those numbers from as well as that is way off from what was reported. Check this before making that claim: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/08/h...pecs-revealed/

However, this was reported back in February of a possible Type R CR-Z which would be sick. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/02/12/r...yo-motor-show/.

That made me also, I'll wait for the real independent review from car & driver or road and track for this one.

I didnt know kia was trying to get into it to...they are talking about adding a turbo to the forte koup for 2011 though. and VW has been trying to get a small rwd car off the ground for a long time now, the toyota might just be the ticket to finally getting them to do it. Looks like the next few years will be exciting for the car guys around the world...

I never really believed the Silvia project was ever cancelled just merely put on hold due to the economic downturn. The car was supposedly really far along in the development process so it's no surprise that they will be able to quickly dust it off and bring it to market if the FT-86 is the sales hit that we all think it will be.

Those other ones are just pipe dreams though that probably wouldn't make it to market until around the time of the mid cycle refresh for the FT-86. Does VW even have a small RWD platform? Would Kia use a version of the RWD Genesis platform because Hyundai tried that and their coupe is huge/overweight compared to the target specs of the FT.

The only other company, besides Nissan, that I think could realistically offer a similar size/configured vehicle to the FT-86 whithin the same timeframe is Mazda. They have a new miata coming out around the same time and could relatively easily pull a porsche move, ala cayman, and offer a slightly different coupe version of their roadster. That will never happen though.
