I find driving AT boring, can't replicate rowing through gears; having to modulate the clutch, etc... No knock on whomever doesn't agree or prefer AT. I personally prefer an MT car, that's what I learned to drive and that's what I like. I've only had one AT car and sold it. Right now own two cars BRZ and commuter and both are MT. Not because its faster has more power blah, blah, but because I like that experience.

Exactly! I quoted his post at least twice just to see what impact it would have on the anti auto league. The effect was zero. He probably had the best statement of any on choosing the AT.
Although hijack funtime usually takes a different twist on here.

I understand they used a CVT though so nobody should like them.

Hmmm......sounds like you need to learn how to launch an automatic.....

And you do not need a trans brake to do it either..............

When I went to the dealer for checking and FR-S, they didn't have any MT available that day for test drive. I test drove an AT and came out very impressed with the car and I was about to put a deposit for an MT. Then, I noticed my car in the showroom. 2014 Whiteout Monogram which was previous year's model and the dealer's demo car. It looked different than I test drove with the HID headlights and pearl white color. I checked the accessories and found that it had many extras. They told me that if I buy that demo model instead of putting deposit on the MT, they would give $5K discount and I would get 3 year full warranty. Although it was AT, I signed the contract that day.

I had dreamed so long to go back to manual transmission for years. After signing the contract until the car was delivered next week, I thought I had just destroyed my dream. But I had no regrets after that. I love the 2500 rpm highway cruise and better mpg. Yeah, it wasn't launching like an MT but, with JRSC, that is a past story now and I don't worry about clutch replacement as an additional benefit. In the manual mode, I can still feel the driver-car engagement in a different way.

This car is a total package as a sports car, guys ... there is so much more than just transmission and 0-60.

I kinda wonder how the auto would feel with something like 4.56 rear gears

its unbelievable that this has swollen up to 16 pages.

The OP bought an auto, i hope he enjoys it and i'm sure he will. I personally have an MT, i love it for reasons that are my own. I'd suggest people to buy an MT if they asked cause that's my point of reference and what i actually can personally comment on.

but otherwise, who really gives a crap? go out there and love on your cars. try talking only about things that you know specifically about or plainly state that you have an opinion on something thats just an opinion. be humble when you don't know something and dont be presumptuous about what other people do and dont know.

voila - a fun and useful forum experience was had by all.

The first gear with 4.56 ratio would be too jerky, I guess. I am not a mechanical engineer but, I think, the first gear set might also require special treatment for extra toughness and wear.

i think the 2017's are 4.3 on the manual... might even perk the auto up with just that 4.3 gearset

Oh! that is final drive ratio of differential you mention. Sorry, I took it as 1st gear ratio of transmission.

In that case, I think the new final drive could possibly be used for the automatic as well since it is just the differential. I guess, the ECU will need reprogramming for automatic with the new final drive ratio. The acceleration will be quicker for sure but rpm will increase for all speed range, top speed will decrease, right? Personally, I wouldn't want that for my car.
