Took my BRZ to Drift Office yesterday and had a tune done with the electric supercharger. This is the TQ 25024V compressor and not the one that Fenton is currently testing. Working with Bob and Bill is very easy and they answer any questions you may have - which in my case were many. It was also 86 night and Bob bought 240 chicken wings to share with everyone. Back to the tune. They didn’t want to run a baseline as I have just added a Borla header with the supercharger and they didn’t want to run a risk of running too lean. However, the first run was done without the arming switch on and resulted in a hp measurement of app. 150. Low figure was due to drag from the blades in the supercharger. Bob did say that a normal BRZ (FT-S) without mods will average about 162 without a tune. The next five runs were very similar all showing 196 hp and torque between 176-180. Boost was a maximum of 5.1 trailing off as the rpms climbed. Bob thinks that this is because battery power starts dropping off almost immediately and gets down to 19v by the end of the run. I thought it was because at the higher rpms the boost just can keep up with the increased air flow. Perhaps Fenton and Rob can comment on this. I can say that when the boost kicks in it does push you back in the seat and makes the car much more enjoyable to drive. Graph is below with one of the typical runs and one done in second gear just to determine that it was shifting at 8000 rpms (second gear only).

It is not a function of battery power. I'd you are going up a hill down low in the rpm in a tall gear you will see that you get 5psi all the time even if the battery power reads 22v. Boost is rpm dependent. 2000 rpm equals 5psi, 7000 is usually 2 psi no matter what. Another way to prove that is to let the battery charge all the way up and hit the gas at 6000 rpm.... You won't get 5psi because the engine needs more airflow at that rpm and boost can't build. What engine is that for a base line because I have never seen a fa20 with less than 125 tq for the whole run and have never seen a na brz make peak power above 7500 rpm. That looks like a Honda high reving engine or something like that. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |

Mods are the Borla UEL and a Perrin over pipe. Bob thinks that EL headers may be better for this set-up. Didn't look at the boost graph maybe they still have it. That isn't a baseline but my car dynoed in second gear. They were making sure that second gear was reving up to 8000. Fenton do you know at what voltage the compressor will start to fade?

As soon as you hit wot the voltage will drop to 22, that's completely normal.... It will put out full boost until it hits 16ish v on the read out. Something that caters the top end will be best with this setup. People have had good luck with the rev works up top so I think that is what I will try. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |

Should be interesting to compare jpit and myself. Since we should have the same kits. Just some mod differences.

@fenton
In the name of science I went out this morning a beat the crap out of the ESC, getting data from the ECU for MAP. Getting consistent reading below, or even at 3000 proved to be problematic. I really wanted to get a consistent reading @ that point, so I was engaging the ESC @2500, allowing for a 500 rpm ramp-up. For the most part I'd get readings in the 80 g/s range, with a few hits right on 82 g/s. Engaging the ESC at 2000 produced wild results; any thing from 60 to 140 g/s at 2500 rpm, but then stabilizing around 80 g/s as I passed through 3000 rpm. These are my results through the rpm band: 3000 rpm ~ 78 to 82 g/s 4000 rpm ~ 90 to 94 g/s 5000 rpm ~ 108 to 111 g/s 7000 rpm ~ 151 to 155 g/s Is this data useful?

Hitting that high of g/s down low really makes the tuning problematic. Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |
