License plate rubbing on Trunk

Anyone else noticing the rear license plate rubbing on the trunk, causing scuffs to the clear coat? My guess is since our trunks only use 2 bolts for mounting. I'm not using a frame on the plate, but I'm curious to hear if anyone who is using a frame if they're getting scuffs too. Also, in general, what are you guys doing to help prevent this?

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. You can see the scuffs at the top right and lower left.

Here's another

The only thing I can suggest is some kind of foam tape that you can adhere to the back of the plate. Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to guard against this when I get my car.

I used 3m foam tape and applied it the backside edges of my license plate. This way you dont ever have to worry about marks or rattling. Plus the adhesive is on the plate in case you want to change something later.

Exactly what I did. Even have a frame around my plate.

May I ask where you got this?

Also, is the adhesive on both sides of the foam or just one side?

It is one sided and it can be found at any car parts store. The brand I got was 3M since it looked more durable.

Thanks. By any chance, do you have a part number of it?

License plate frame I purchased came with nearly 1/2" spacers/standoffs for the mounts. Y'all might wanna look into that.

You apply the foam to the car not the plate! Dirt particles can get between the foam and car making it act like sandpaper. If the foam is adhered to the vehicle, the pad will protect your paint.

I was thinking this. I did pick up some foam from CarQuest. It's Campers Tape. Single side adhesive that's quite soft and 3/16th think.

If the foam is making good contact with the trunk, wouldn't dirt not get between the two, regardless if it was on attached on the trunk or plate?

Between water, and bouncing from random potholes, you'd be shocked at the ability of dirt particles to get where you don't want them.
