Detailing junkie here. All depends on budget, willingness to prepare the paint properly for a wax/sealant/coating to adhere to.

First, do not use dish soap to wash your car. Use a good car wash like Meguiars gold glass or Optimum Car Wash.

If your just looking to wash and wax then I would lean towards something like Collinite 845 or Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0. You will get about 6 months out of these with properly prepared paint.

If your open to doing a wash, clay, polish and want a longer lasting and higher gloss you could do a ceramic paint coating like Mckee's 37 Paint Coating. It's really easy to use for a beginner and I get about 1 year or more out of it.

Mckee's 37 also has a a new product out that works well and is super slick and easy. Mckee's 10 minute paint sealant.

I get all my stuff through Autogeek, but Mckee's 37 can also be found on Amazon.

Ever try this product? https://www.amazon.com/Aerolon-Wet-A...dp/B015OW1Q56/

I've used it and it's pretty nice, super easy to use. I bet it would work great on your black paint.

No but I've got an arsenal of just about every main ceramic coatings available, Cquartz, Gtechniq Exo and CSL, Gyeon, Nanolex, Britemax Igneous, Optimum Gloss coat and many more smaller brands. Both my black vehicles are coated with Cquartz UK 3.0 currently

I used sealants and waxes prior to coatings, theirs some really good ones out there, but nothing comparable the longevity and protection of a ceramic coating.

I'm using Wolfgang Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0 stuff is amazing. Was using Blackfire Wet Diamond previously which was also really good, but the Wolfgang seems to have the edge.

The thing to keep in mind is nearly any product will put a nice shine on your car from Turtle wax to big money applications that you need a buffer to apply properly. The issue, for me anyway, is what is a true 6 month product so I only have to do the work twice a year. In my experience, traditional waxes regardless of price give up much sooner than any polymer product. Zaino, Wolfgang, some Griots stuff have been mentioned and are all good. I've used Zaino for years with great results until I started taking my car to a pro (harder to find a good one than you may think) twice a year. He uses Wolfgang products.

Optimum Opticoat or CQuartz Finest Ceramic Coat your car and call it a day. Protection and no need to wax. Just use optimum instant detailer for more slick and gloss or Car Pro Reload on top of the ceramic coating. Just my 2 cents!

why wait a day or two later? is this essential? i just did what the instructions said for my sealant(jescar powerlock) and layered my collinite 845 wax on it about 3 hours later.

Wax is great for what it is. If you enjoy the process of waxing a car regularly, you get the same results as a sealant.

I find my self gravitating towards sealants like opti-seal and hyper-seal.
They provide the same protection but the application process is fast. 20 minutes at most.

Opti-seal being something I can wipe on and walk away pretty hard to beat. I've maintained the sealant for 3 months now by applying a spray per panel post wash when I do the final dry with microfiber. Water still beads like the day it was applied.

I have a 1/4 mile long gravel driveway. I used to be into washing and waxing and all that expensive stuff. Now, I wash my care twice a year, when the really solid dark dirt areas on the back edge of the doors gets just too big. I've never waxed, but I just bought some turtle wax paste for the nose to make the bugs easier to scrape off.

Every time I wash it, it's so pretty that I think I should wash it more often, but meh. I really don't care what it looks like. I just like driving it. It's a cross between a go cart and a slot car.
