Why is the 5x100 PCD ?

I don't understand what is the point of having them over 5 x 114.3 ?

It's not just the hub cost. They have brakes and everything else from WRXs and Legacys from the parts bin to use on this car. Using the 5x114.3 from the STI would have required many new parts instead of just running 5x100 and using the parts you already have sitting around.

This isn't a heavy car, 5x100 is fine. It only sucks for people who want low or negative offset wheels, which will look stupid on this car anyways IMO, and for those who already have 5x114.3 wheels for their other cars (which includes myself).

That makes perfect sense, Thanks

Weight is another consideration. The car is light enough where 4x100 would've been perfectly strong enough, however Subaru doesn't have any recent 4x100 hubs and brakes AFAIK that would've made doing things light and cheap a good solution. Thus, 5x100. There are plenty of aftermarket wheel and brake options for 5x100. Be thankful it's not something single-make like Corvette, Viper, Elise, etc..

The Corvette uses corporate GM bolt pattern, 5x6.75 (5x120.65). Same as the 4th Generation F-body. And there is PLENTY of aftermarket support for those. They're just not as cheap because Vette Tax.

The Elise is 4x100. Like a great number of 4 lug cars in the world.

The Viper is a 6x4.5 (6x114.3). That is rare and a pain in the ass to shoe.

I can't even imaging the hissy fit that the wheel snobs would have thrown if it had been 4x100. But with that said, the weight savings would have been pretty negligible for a production car.

4x100 is very common, however the staggered sizes [16x6.5 et31 and 17x7.5 et38] combined with odd offsets, odd hub sizes, and requirement for the obtrusive AP brake caliper mean good fitments are rare and often made Elise-specific. Even then, there are a couple options out there.

The FR-S/BRZ, OTOH, will be a cakewalk to shoe in comparison.

LOL I would have been fine with 4x100, I have multiple sets of 4x100 wheels sitting around

I wonder if this is going to be like the STI: next MY after introduction they'll release the BRZ with 5*114.3 hubs and piss off early-adpoters.
