FR-S/BRZ vs. Genesis Coupe

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Spy photographers caught the 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe testing near the Arctic Circle earlier this year, and now Inside Line has confirmed the refreshed Genesis Coupe will debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. It will feature an updated exterior along with increased power ratings for both of its engine offerings.
Currently, the rear-wheel-drive 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is powered by either a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine (in 2.0T models) or a 3.8-liter V6 (in 3.8 models). The four-cylinder engine generates 210 horsepower and 223 pound-feet of torque, while the V6 pumps out 306 hp and 266 lb-ft. For the 2.0T, Hyundai offers either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic with manual shift control. For the 3.8 models, there's the manual or a six-speed automatic, also with manual shift control.
The V6 upgrade is expected to mimic the changes already announced on the 2012 Genesis sedan. The addition of direct injection and a higher compression ratio bumps output on the V6 to 333 hp and 291 lb-ft of torque. No exact power figures have been discussed regarding the 2.0T, but we expect only modest gains as Hyundai isn't likely to do anything that will adversely affect the Coupe's mileage figures. The Genesis 2.0T is capable of getting up to 30 mpg on the highway.

They will likely add DI to the 2.0T. That's is what is in the new Sonata turbo. In the Sonata it puts out 274hp and 269 lb-ft. It also manages 34/27mpg. If they put that in the Genesis coupe it will be one badass car.

I saw this on Autoblog but I can't help but notice that the Gen coupe in the pic is shown frolicking in the snow.

If only they could get the weight down and update the interior a little.

Cold weather testing, which is good because I remember reading a bunch of owners complaining of noises from interior panels in the winter.

Guess I will have to consider the updated version if it is being released at the same time.

I still have the bad taste for Hyundai my 04 Accent left in my mouth, but they've been putting out some enticing cars of late. The Veloster turbo is definitely on my to-drive list. I really wanted to like the Genesis Coupe, but I felt the V6 Mustang was better in just about every regard. Still needs quite a bit of refinement.

Is it me or something is quite funny. Does the front wheel in the picture seem larger than the one in the rear? How would this kind of setup help in winter driving?
