OEM air filter replacement doesn’t fit!

I picked up a purolator air filter for my 2017 Toyota 86 a few months back, and decided to replace my air filter today but it doesn’t fit! So I bought an STP air filter (because that’s what they had) and that one had the same issues as well. It was too wide and didn’t fit properly!

Is anyone else having the same issues?

Sounds like you bought filters for the 2013-2016 model; it's wider than the 2017+ model.

I thought that was the issue as well. So I told them to get me a filter for the 2018 model, and it came out to the same product number that I bought

The Subaru/Toyota OEM is a paper filter.

Sorry mate, I should have been clearer.

I'm not sure what the aftermarket filters are made from, except the Ryco, which is paper.

The Ryco does have a slightly less number of pleats/surface area than the OEM, no restrictions were found with it during tuning though.

I definitely bought Purolator A25463 which looks like the 16MY, but seems like I need the 17

Because those are aftermarket and not OEM. Get the OEM part and it will fit.

That shouldn't matter, there are plenty of aftermarket filters on the market which fit.

17+MT filters are a stand alone design from all other year and AT models.

Red intake manifold cars get the new airbox.

Exactly. Autozone asks what engine you have when you ask for valve stem caps. You think they can figure out a different air filter for one car, 2 years only, only with a manual?

They'll catch up 2021 ish. Easier to just go to Toyota and get the right part.
