From what I remember, building up a stock FA20 and adding FI would cost around $15k. On the other hand, selling everything and getting an LS1, Tremec (Magnum XL, some opted for IIRC?), and an IS300 rear differential was also around the same price. Of course, you'd have to sell your stock engine, transmission and differential for around $8-10k first, but the idea of the out-of-pocket cost being the same but instead you get to "trade up" to a more reliable engine, with more power NA, was the reason most people went the engine swap route. I could be wrong if that's not the case. It's just what I remember from reading threads here a while ago.
Not a hope in hell you will get $8K - $10K for the stock drive train anymore.
Yes you could manage to do it cheaper with more available engines but the OP was specific to the 2jz. You could also do the FA20 build cheaper if you just buy the parts and build it yourself instead of buying a pre built engine. Overall the built FI is going to cost far less than a swap. There are maybe 10 successfully completed swaps documented on this forum compared to the thousands of FI cars. The biggest reason for that is cost.

I sold my engine, spotless/mint- never seen a winter with only 20k miles for $3k and sold the trans for $350. The OP's engine is toast so this is a moot point.

I would have given you $3,001 just so I don't have to clean mine this summer! So much sand. So, so, so much sand.

That was the offer I've gotten for mine. I have less than 2,100 miles on my 2018 model year. I, too, am looking into swapping but for an LS (maybe LS3). I'm not expecting much from mine either.

I did my swap and have all functions working except for cruise for roughly 11k, and still haven't been able to sell my engine and trans for 2k obo with 83k miles. Its possible to do it on the cheaper side; cheaper side being 7-8k.

You left the whole FI thing out. Building engine will not make power alone. Based on the FI application and power level you mention, you will still need transmission, differential, cooling, and other upgrades that will double/triple the cost and effort.

I think, you will waste the money and end up with a mess that will go directly to junk. Leave the car alone. You are not up for it yet.
