So has anyone managed to get the BRZ Boomerang/parking lights to operate as DRLs?

So has anyone managed to get the BRZ Boomerang/parking lights to operate as DRLs?

or any aftermarket manufacturers making them?

Also, on a side note, what is the function of those yellow tinted headlights? just protection?

Yes. Had a local shop rewire them to stay on.

Is there a draw back to doing that?

The boomerangs don't have much light output and can barely be seen during the daytime.

Yellow tinted headlights are for style/protection, and also illegal in most places. If you were going to get tint though, look up Lamin-X.

I'd be more interested if anyone can figure out a way to make the boomerangs have more light output. They're pointless during the day when you can barely see them.

Sure, you can do this. Just swap out halo-light terminals for those feeding the DRLs. But I agree, they aren't bright enough during the day. It's kinda worth it in Michigan, Seattle or some other sun-deprived area. But if you're, say, in Arizona, noone's gonna see them.

If someone is brave enough - he can try to increase the voltage on those and see if that helps with brightness. If you car burns as a result - it your own damn fault.

They are kinda dull. In overcast or in rainy nasty days you can see them but when it's sunny you can't. I live in the bay area so we get all kinds of weather so most of the time they are noticeable.

The Boomerangs are not bright since there is only one LED that is feeding light through them. If you take a look at the GMC Acadia, it has big boomerangs similar to ours. Theirs is so much brighter since their boomerang is lit by individual LEDs spaced equally apart along the length of the boomerang.

In order to increase the brightness of the boomerangs, you'd have to wire up more LEDs. You could theoretically change the color too if you really wanted to.

If we were Audi we'd figure out a way to make them bright white most of the time, but blink orange when turn-signalling :P

I would pay for an upgraded boomerang LED. If only.. maybe Subaru will see that this could be an awesome styling cue in the future and provide OEM brighter LEDs.

This car could look really aggressive if the boomerangs were a bit brighter, and the DRL Bars were a bit more sleek and defined

Same. If only some aftermarketers would pick up on this!

someone on this forum already did this I believe. Baked the head lights, blacked out the chrome, and switched the LED bulbs to a brighter one.

I too am curious, and when I bake my head lights, I might attempt to do this.
