HIDs kits today are plug and play.

Its easy as installing a regular halogen bulb

You should be able to do it in less than 5 mins

I installed DDM HID lights in my FR-S and I haven't had any issues with lights blinding or anything of the sort. I do like the retrofits and they are better visibility, but HID installs is good enough for me. I'd rather spend $300 on lowering springs.

The install took me about 10 minutes and the hardest part was finding a place to put the ballasts! Couldn't decide where!

Seriously OP, you can do this yourself very easily. This is perhaps the easiest install. Next to unscrewing the antennae to install a shorter one... and the results are awesome!

that cut off makes me cringe. I dont care how "close to perfect" the cut off is,

halogen projector= halogen bulb

HID projector=HID bulb

I hate the amber looks as well, but PnP kits are crap and blind other drivers. With all the flickering, one bulb going out, glare etc. PnP are not worth the money. A much cheaper and better alternative IMO is doing the H11 to H9 conversions. Very popular in subaru forums. Costs ~$15 for white lights and no ballast, squirrel finder nonsense.

That cut off hardly counts. It's so close to the wall that it's irrelevant. There is a thread that has the FR-S manual and in it there are instructions that discuss adjusting your headlights. It says you need to be either 25 or 9.84 ft away from a wall that you are using to adjust your lights on. So all those pictures that people post showing the cut off (the ones that are like 3 inches from the wall) are worthless anyway.

Having said all that, I do suggest (as someone else said this in a thread as well) that you lower/adjust your projector if you do it yourself. It's SUPER easy to do and it just requires a screwdriver to adjust the projector to get it at the angle you want. You definitely can blind someone if they are pointed too high up. Good luck OP!
