Later years of both BRZ and FRS/86 have added more refinement in interior and some suspension updates. I believe the FRS's are a bit more tail-happy than both BRZ and GT86, which are supposedly very similar (hopefully someone who shopped around can give you a better answer). More options were added as years go on, but that's easy to find out. Also, the new track stability setting is less restrictive than earlier sport mode, but I just turn mine full-off most of the time.

I haven't driven anything other than my '13 so everything above is just a summary from what I've read and heard. I did ride in a '14 BRZ series.blue, and it felt the same as mine ride-wise with a nicer interior.

Newer ones ('17+) have slightly better suspension. And 2 more hp?
Other than interior differences is pretty much the same.

The choice of tires you outfit the car with will have a much larger impact than MY difference between the models. A 2015 BRZ I've driven feels softer than my 2013 FRS. This could be since my car has 25,000 less miles, it could be since I had 200TW tires and I'm not sure what he had on the car. I wouldn't let your selection in the car or comparison be complicated by trivial details like spring rates, that you'll probably swap out for some thing anyway.

If you're not planning on swapping for top tier stock class competitive reasons, I suppose there's merit in asking - otherwise, rumor has it the Scion is a fraction stiffer.

EDIT: I've also driven a 2017 PP BRZ. This was a very smooth car compared to mine. In all aspects, it had fundamentally different handling because of the performance pack. Other than this, I think the difference will be negligible. Any change you want can be accomplished with an aftermarket spring, a stiffer tire, among other aftermarket enhancements.

2017+ new bumper and everything else that's already been said

Stick with 2013 and save 15k or buy 2017+ for the differences.

2013 FRS are the least stable. Besides that there really isn't that much of a difference until the 2017+.

Because they are the most drift happy, plus if you listen to a lot of the owners, they are the ones that have actually gained stability at highway speeds by slapping on massive wings. I'm sure the difference is less than 10%, but sometimes that is all that is needed to make a difference.

The gearing change on the 17+ makes a big difference in the cars acceleration and feel more so than the 5hp bump.

I completely agree. I just test drove an 18 and it felt quicker in city driving.
