In the Cosworth thread it was mentioned that during R&D the belt wanted to jump off the pulleys in some circumstances, so they made a flanged idler pulley to help keep it aligned. Based on how your belt failed (edge of belt facing what would be the tall-flanged side of the Cosworth idler), it seems to me that it could have been experiencing intermittent stress in that regard and it shortened the life.

I've also been noticing these "lines" on the hood for a while, cleaned it off once or twice but this is the worst it's been. I assumed it was dirt or something being slung by the belt, not sure if anyone else sees the same thing without belt issues? Normal? Maybe it's an early indication that the belt is beginning to fail and come apart?

I never had those lines until after installing hood vents. Do you still have the front under tray on the car? Looks like road debris getting slung up by the belt.

Yep, still have everything intact underneath. The only thing different is the mustache removal/mesh grill mod I did this summer.

My car has stock hood and body panels. Those lines don't appear on my hood like what you are seeing. Almost 5k miles on my kit.

Maybe your belt is starting to wear out after all, I don't have all those other sling marks under my hood.

Have you looked at the belt? Checked for irregularities with the width through its the length? Is there similar residue/debris anywhere else? I imagine a belt that's deteriorating will show physical signs of wear.

I planned on replacing my belt every year, since I do about 30k miles a year (a lot of highway pulls).

Seem to recall abbate recommending replacing the stock belt in one of her vids.

Thanks but I already replaced it with Continental Elite 4060995 Poly-V/Serpentine Belt. Is one belt really better than the other or is it just brand/personal preference?

Got my kit yesterday. I never do the kind of things you're supposed to do, like check kit contents. On this I actually did and found that Edelbrock didn't give me the reducer for the MAF to throttlebody connection. Edelbrock's tech number said call back Monday. CSG is working on it for me.

As a note for anyone that orders the kit, there are several small metal brackets that are painted. Poorly. Many edges on mine already had some rust on them. Having nothing to do since I couldn't install my kit I blasted them and powdercoated them.

Anyone in the socal area willing to meet up this weekend to give a potential buyer a ride in the SC car. Based on my reading I really like this kit. Couple used ones on the forums and if I like what I feel then I might just pull the trigger on one if I can get it for the right price.
