2013 First86 FR-S Hot Lava 6M with 55K in WA state

So I haven't been on this forum for a long time but it's time to sell my hot lava FR-S that was one of the first 86s imported in 2012. It was part of the First 86 program with special plaques, a trip to Long Beach CA for some drift racing, and some cool swag some of which I'll include in the sale.

Price: I'd like to get $18K for it. Not sure if that is not nearly enough or too much. Blue book is $13K where I am but dealers right now are selling for a lot more without a clean title (?). Anyone have feedback on price?
Mileage: 55,200

Clean title and carfax. Have had all standard maintenance done with records. Not tracked. A few small scrapes because people don't know how to park next to my car. Nonstock items are:
- TRD Intake
- TRD Door Stabilizers. Yeah it was a thing that I bought from Toyota Japan.
- TRD Spoiler from Japan. Better looking to me than the US variety.
- Bespoke head unit. The stock radios sucked when the FR-S first came out and this was a huge improvement.
- Weathertech trunk liner and floormats. Stock fabric floormats just put back in as they were unused.

What makes this an unusual FR-S?
- Plaque on the center console marking it as 1 of 86
- Plaque in glove box with signature of the Scion team
- Original jacket/hat/backpack swag

I'd like some opinions here... am I correct here in thinking the First86 plaques make it somewhat a unique car? Or do I just pretend they aren't there and trade it in to the dealer?

The dealers in my area are having a field day marking up an FRS with blue book value of 12K...13K up to 17K...20K because of limited availability but that is just being in the car business right now.

What do you guys think?

Yes, it's unique and looks like you took care of it.

If you are not in a hurry, you may want to wait and sell it personally. Although if you get a great offer from a local dealer or online you may want to take it since the used car market is hot lava right now... like the color.

Has the valve spring recall been done?

Personally, as someone who also has the plaques, I doubt it adds much if any value. It makes the car more interesting but it doesn't really make it any better.

What adds value is the lower number of miles you have on it for a near 10 year old car.

Yes, I had the valve spring recall work done two years ago.

I think the two opinions above kind of capture my own ambivalence about it. For those of us who love these cars, having the First 86 badges is quite cool and unique. But for the rest of the world (car dealers included), it won't make any difference at all.

I'm not really in a rush to sell it but on the other hand here in WA state I do get a break on sales tax on new car worth the trade in price if I trade it in.

The sales tax break (assuming you get a fair trade-in price) would probably offset anything you'd make for the badges.

I've actually considered what I would do with mine, which has little value at this point anyway with over 180,000 miles on it. I think if I got to sale it, I'll remove the plaques, and frame them with the lithograph we received or maybe with a nice photo of the car. It has more value to me than it does to anyone buying the car.

Ah that's a good idea. I do believe we had a beer together on that trip down to Long Beach. Glad to see you're still having fun.

My next car arrives in mid-July. It's a Mustang Mach-E electric with twin motors and extended battery. A very different car than the FR-S but times change.

Bring a Trailer? Might be the only time I've ever looked at an 86 and thought a good detail and a BaT auction. But. With the low miles and SWAG, it might strike a chord with that crowd and get you more than a general ad and/or trade-in. Not sure what the fees are, etc. but might be worth looking into.

I was just looking into BaT this weekend. Figured I'd try this forum first since a) I've got history here and b) it's $99 less than BaT. Looks like I will need to go take a ton more pictures of the car than the fifteen I have as the typical car up there has well over a hundred pictures of every single angle and closeup. Makes sense if you're basically buying a car sight-unseen in person.

Yep, good times there. I was disappointed they never did any follow-up with us before Scion bit the dust. I good marketing opportunity lost in my opinion.

Nice EV. MomHawk and I test drove it and considered it, but in the end there were some things that were deal killers for us (my review of it is in the Mach E thread starting here).

There is a very good chance that I'll replace the 86 with an EV since it's my Daily Driver. Just haven't found the right one, or have a good reason to at this point.

Ok so I'm going to say this is no longer for sale on this site as I'm putting it up on BringATrailer.com and they don't want it for sale anywhere else. I'll let you know how that goes.

Hey, if you want to part with your First86 swag let me know. I wasn't able to go on the LA trip due to deployment and they didn't send me any of the stuff given to people in-person.

Most of the stuff they gave us there was throw-aways or promo items, you didn't miss much in terms of that.
