cluck cluck clutch rattle in neutral to engagement???

Basically, I push clutch in and on way to pushing it in, it rattles like something is loose.

Sound is heard @ 0:04, 0:08, 0:13, 0:17, 0:21, 0:26...etc

I put my phone down below front left tire, then inside, next to my clutch. Sorry if it got too loud for a sec.

Info:

I. Noticed it 2(?) months ago, but it went away. Car had been sitting for few weeks before that. I finally got it on sound/video.

II. I have been driving manual for half of my life or so, so yes, I know what i'm doing. Not my first car.

III. I got under and tried to locate sound... I'm either going blind or deaf. I couldn't pin point it.

IV. Only happens in Neutral to 1st gear and lightly, feint in 1st to 2nd. RPMS don't matter, but you can hear it better the lower the rpms are. It is not the engine chugging or dying..etc

V. I've googled, wikipediaded, reddittettetteed, 4chan'd it and could find no other similar threads with this sound.

VI. 20.5k miles on engine. 2014, 37J, stock 100%. Drive like a grandma.

VII. Yes, sound/rattle is there when cool and warmed up. Yes its there after driving 5min, 10min and 20min.

VIII. Could it be clutch release lever/fork? IDK.... let's guess.

I will try to go to dealer on Monday if possible, but any similar problems or any help is greatly appreciated and will receive a thanks.

Muchas thank you's.

Here's vid again in case link is dead.

Could the TOB need adjustment or be bad?

Here's a Jeep with same problem it seems! click click

Hope you guys dont mind your names here. Ya'll been here active longer than I have, maybe you can help?

It's the throw out bearing. It needs replacing. Same sound on my bros RSX.

On phone so don't want to use the data to watch/listen to vid but I am with Mr ac on the throw out bearing theory based on previous threads. The description is spot on and even if not a regular problem it is still a "know issue" with these cars. Many of the threads also say it starts out as intermittent and slowly becomes more regular.
The good news is that it is not a horrid nor expensive repair. The bad news is that technically it is a wear item and is not covered by warranty (although some of the better dealerships have indeed covered it).

Yep, I agree, it's most likely the throw out bearing.

Also, I'd replace the clutch fork ..... it may be bent/cracked (something made the bearing go bad).

When you come up to a stop, do you have a habit of holding the clutch down ..... or do you slip it into neutral ....and release the clutch ... ??

My feeling is that the dealership should replace the bearing under warranty. I wouldn't consider it a "wear item", at 20,000 miles. Maybe yes, at >150,000 miles.

If the dealership doesn't decide to fix it under warranty..... you tell them that for the price of a throw out bearing and labor ....... they DO NOT want FR-S Forum "over the hill gang" coming over the hill down into Monterey at them ......

I hope you get er fixed up soon......

+1 TOB. Scraping sound follows engine speed. Do NOT let them deny you warranty or the Three Old Fartsketeers will be down for rolling some heads.

Thank you gang. Doing research and I see they wont replace TOB 5/10 times if over 36k but they will 8/10 times if less than that. I'm at 20k so they should (I hope).

Lots of FJ cruisers had faulty TOB and Toyota replaced even clutch to make sure there werent any future issues.

Pop hood open locate slave cylinder on top of transmission at back of engine bay, grab clutch fork and move it all around. Noise is caused by dirt(clutch material) on the pivot points

0817 am.

Just spoke with tech, Mr. JD (tech) in Salinas, CA.

Succesful replication of rattle! Tech really nice and helpful. Mentioned that its hard to call it a TSB or make it a TSB due to the lack of abundance of twins. Not enough problems reported.

Come on guys! Report more to Toyota! He also said that they (twins) have a lot of quirks (rattles?). I hope Charlotte is in good hands. Sniff sniff. Ill admit i felt emotional for a few seconds leaving car there. So ronery. Need more friends. Also, getting x2 free oil changes! Whoot.

Will update more. Might have to change my grad school appt later today.

P.s. Reading The Working Poor Invisible in America by
David K Shipler while I wait. Must read. Humbleness reminder to be greatful and considerate.
