So atm even though the rpm is right the sensor is picking up the wrong crank position.
It can fit one of two ways. As an engineer, I am disappointed that they didn't consider making it completely idiot proof with a slight angular offset of the guide pin. Totally free feature.

:/ design-for-service fail.

If you're getting an RPM value, it's mounted properly.

Thanks, I didn't remember the pin to keep it aligned, which means It might be correct anyway, but I'll probably drop the trany anyway to make sure because I don't have any more Ideas.

Why are people on this forum so eager to tear stuff up?

There's an access cap opposite the crank sensor, it's used to unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate on automatics. There's nothing to unbolt on a manual, but you can clearly see if you've reversed the reluctor wheel without removing the transmission. The teeth should point towards the engine.

Of course, the wheel may in installed the right way, but indexed wrong... if you don't remember there being an indexing pin, maybe it fell during disassembly... And that won't be visible through the access hole.

But it never hurts to do low effort checks before high effort removals.

I'm going to stick up for myself a little because this hit a nerve even though I'm pretty sure it wasn't aimed at me. I spent over 8 years in the Navy fixing shit that was broken or worn out mainly due to excessive preventative maintenance. I detest unnecessarily disassembling anything so I put extra effort into making sure I get it right the first time. That comes with experience.

I also learn new stuff on this forum all the time. Today I was reminded that there's a nice inspection port on top of the engine. Never even considered it.

Man do I feel dumb, I just pulled the trans and it turns out I put the reluctor wheel on 90 deg off. To be clear (RZNT4R) I knew it was facing the engine the whole time but I never lined the pin up. This was the first trans I ever pulled but its the last one I'm going to rush. I'm going to take my time putting it back together now.

How were you able to mount the flywheel? Wasn't it visibly crooked?

not nearly enough to notice, the pin on the engine side wasn't any more than 1/32". It's enough to catch the hole, but the flywheel seemed to torque down just fine over top of it. I should stress that I never even took the wheel off, and therefore didn't see the pin the first time.

Wow. That's crazy. I haven't had the flywheel off of mine yet but, based on previous experience, I can picture how it all went down for you.
