Tuner sends you back a file to unlock the ECU/software and the base tune. You then flash the base tune onto your ECU and let the car idle until it warms up.

They should then ask for a series of data logs from the software while driving or on a dyno so they can send you a tune tailored to your car.

Make sure you are basically done with intake/exhaust mods before you start up this process because getting an e-tune done is around $300-500, even with the cable already in-hand. I got my car tuned after the header/panel filter and plan to get it updated by the same shop after I put on a full exhaust. Drift-Office did a fantastic job. I'm up around 180whp with just the Rev Works header.
Finally thats what I was looking for thank you so I have exhaust inlet tube and drop in filter I would run the data log send it to them and pay 300 to 500 bucks more

Pretty sure OFT is in reference to Open Flash Tablet in this case ;-)
But i like your definitions also...

Not necessarily. They may include the tuning with the price of the stage 2 package. Call them up. They probably have a base tune for just a panel filter. Stage 2 is intended for an aftermarket exhaust.

That's what you need to upload the tune. The logging software is pretty cool. It lets you check just about everything the ECU manages or reads.

I'd give them a call to ensure you get the right tune package for your setup. The stage 2 may be less optimal than stage 1 if it's pushing more fuel for a full exhaust. The ECU can adjust to a certain degree, but it might be better to pay an extra $300 later when you're ready to go full exhaust.

Also, you might want to check out the Open Flash Tablet and other open-source options if you're tech savvy. If you've got the cash to blow and would prefer Ecutek, it's a pretty good package, but completely closed. You won't be able to tweak anything yourself. You'll have to pay that $300 to a tuner every time you want to tweak your tune. It only lets you flash tunes onto the ECU, check and clear CELs (check engine light), and log.

False, they opened up those features to end users about a month ago.

I wonder how many people are using this feature to run Shiv's OFT maps?

You can do that with EcuFlash for $169, why buy Ecutek?

Compared to just buying an OFT it's sketchy and a bit impractical, which is why I have an OFT as well as an OpenPort 2.0

Open Flash Tablet is like Tuneboy (motorcycles). Yeah, it's great for people who can do tuning themselves, but good luck finding a professional who specializes in it and is willing to use it on a dyno (even though it works almost identically to Power Commander).

The fact that Ecutek is opening things up makes me think they're trying to stay in competition with the other options popping up.

It also seems to be quite great for people who don't do tuning themselves and just want to run our off-the-shelf maps that seem to work as well (or better) than custom tuned maps from other tuning platforms. Some people forget that we have been tuning Subaru engines since 1999. We have nothing to hide and are proud of the way our OTS map work. And the results speak for themselves. All this talk of needing to custom dyno or e-tune maps is outlandish on 99% of all customer cars. I sometimes wonder what motivates others to suggest that they need all these additional services. Toyota can make a map that works consistently on all cars of similar hardware configuration, all of the time. No reason why a competent tuner can't do the same to cars with different hardware configuration.

Hard time finding tuners who will use OFT? That's not true. The only tuners that will refuse to tune with OFT/Rom Raider are those who are already invested in another tuning platform. And they are more interested in their needs than yours. Go elsewhere and find tuners that actually tune in exchange for money, not job security. The best ones out there don't care about map encryption or keeping secrets. They will tune your car knowing quite well that you are paying them for a job well done.
