Custom one piece dash for double din
Ok so this is a continuation of an earlier post
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114610 Where I customized my dash opening for a double din with bondo so that you didn't see the plastic dash kit. Not sure if this belongs here or in cosmetics but it revolves around the stereo so here goes. Again, credit where credit is due, idea came from DigitalAssassin's build thread. I pulled the dash back out, recessed the stereo a little bit by drilling new mounting holes in the bracket and contoured the stereo opening to match the face of the head unit. However, I also like the look of the one piece dashes so I joined the two sides of my dash trim with apoxy, added some bondo to smooth out the transition and wrapped it all in carbon fiber when I was done. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Eman Last edited by Eman; 02-07-2017 at 04:27 PM. Reason: auto correct |

Nice work, I don't like the CF look but the one-piece design is nice.

new ones come with a one piece dash. Do they not fit on the '13-'16s?

That looks great man, can I ask how you knew the two pieces were lined up perfectly when you were gluing them together? Did you just lay them on a flat surface side by side?

The stock piece isn’t actually supposed to look like CF. It’s a pattern the designers came up with using the vintage triangular Toyota emblem (same motif around window switches, climate controls and the brake light’s shape).
