OEM-like clutch replacement

I am currently at 175k on my 2013 BRZ and my TOB is starting to make noise as I depress the pedal. I replaced the clutch with an Exedy OEM replacement clutch back at around 100k 2 years ago. Has anyone used any other clutches that may be more durable and have the same stock feel?

If the clutch is fine, just replace TOB with upgraded part. I bet your Exedy kit had the old style.

And do it before the TOB really goes and ruins other stuff.

But with the labor cost, doesnt it make sense to replace the clutch too? I did see the new style part, I assumed it would have been addressed when I replaced it in 2017 but I guess not.

Up too you if replace. You can inspect when it is apart.

I have a South bend state 2, like stock feel but handles my power increase pretty well.

I'm only running an OFT stage 2 so not really looking for more grip. Literally just want a stock clutch with a TOB that isn't going to go every ~80k miles.

There are no aftermarket TOBs that I know of. Whatever you do, just make sure you got the new part #. I had to throw out the one in my South Bend kit, and get the upgraded TOB at the dealer.

The one I am referring to is linked below, I want to find the Toyota part#, can probably get it cheaper.

It's on this site, just have to find it. Search with Google with "ft86" after it.

Why did you replace the clutch at 100k miles? Was it just a bad TOB? The stock clutch is good for more miles than what you are getting, but the original TOB was only good for 65-100k miles, which is par for your situation. You could upgrade to the Exedy Stage 1 clutch, which is similar enough and only mildly harsher, but it is more than what you need for your power.

Yeah, only the TOB was an issue. I was at around 100k when the bearing went and figured I would rather them replace the entire clutch and TOB while they had it apart, so I wouldn't have to think about replacing the clutch within the subsequent year(s). $200 for the clutch isn't breaking the bank for me, and it's worth it considering the cost of labor to replace a TOB or clutch, may as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

What I am thinking for this go around is order the OEM replacement Exedy clutch, open it up and check if it has the revised TOB, if not, scoup one up from Toyota (SU003-07349) and then bring it to the shop for the work.

For what it's worth, I have the Exedy stage 1 clutch. Holds 250WTQ well enough and drives like stock (just a heavier pedal)

Does the stage 1 have a shorter life span than the OEM? How much heavier is the pedal? I sit in traffic for 15-20 minutes daily.

May be moving to a DCT for my next car, possibly an M2, this spring/summer. But a little nervous to not have a manual.

Edit: Stage 1 organic version is $170 more, not worth it IMO. But this one does not hold 250WTQ so maybe it's a different one?

If the TOB fails then it is worth it to replace the clutch, especially if the oil inside made a mess on the clutch, but I doubt you need an upgrade. The OEM clutch should be fine. My mom had 250k on her stock clutch on her Accord. Our clutches would last forever with regular use. It is the TOB that sucked.
