I know it's subjective but I actually fell in love once I saw it in person. The front end is basically the front bumper and the hood. There's no right or left fender/wheel arch piece.

I love how there's no edges when the hood becomes the top of the wheel arch. And the rear fenders are nice and wide and looks very aggressive. The car looks rather short and from the front side it makes the cabin look like its tall and sticks out of the car but it's until you look at it from the back then it looks all sleek and more aggressive.

Anyways it definitely looked better in person.

Actually, I bought one but haven't taken too many decent pictures and have only put 50 or so miles on it. So if anyone wants a comparison to the BRZ I have some stuff to say.

I fell in love when I saw the FT-1 concept at the Toronto Auto Show a bunch of years back.
That SCREAMED what a new Supra should be. This thing, having driven it, will never have that legend status, and if it does, it'll be due to fanboism propping up a false idol.

Am I the only one who thinks the MK5 is not really that different than the MK4? I mean aside from having BMW parts. The supra always was just a slightly heavy GT car that was capable of making impressive horsepower. It wasn't particularly good at anything else, or at least not really any better than the competition at the time (3000gt, Skyline, RX7, 300ZX, NSX etc). The MK5 seems to also be a slightly heavy GT car that is looking like it will also make damn good power. That aside the body looks like a modern supra. I think the problem is that people have unrealistic expectations of a car that only a few of those who are complaining have ever even driven. The Supra's hype made the MK5 dead on arrival as there was no way for it to live up to the overhyped car that never really existed in the first place. And as for it being made with BMW, I would rather have that then no Supra at all. For what it's worth I drove a supra back when I had my 300zx TT and 3000GT VR4 and honestly while it was definitely lighter than the 3000, I preferred both of them over the supra.

I don't understand anybody's overt occupation with the FT1. A concept car is more there to market immediate mass appeal but has very little engineering and design behind it to account for practical manufacturing and regulations, etc. The ultra flush, massive sized wheels, the supercar curves, all that nonsense that the vast majority of concept cars always use and almost never make to the final production product (add in the difference in time from concept to production car and there's an even lesser chance of something appearing as is). It was never going to look like that.

Status and "legend" mean nothing, except to tug at marketed heartstrings over a car that sold like garbage anyway, regardless of its actual performance capabilities. The FT86 is absolutely nothing like an AE86...none of us clearly gave a damn or else we'd have put our money elsewhere. The only major fanboism that's currently centered around any of the Supra's is the MK4.

Simple, Supra is a better everyday car(disregarding space). The 86/BRZ is a better drivers car.

The 86 is a paring knife; the Supra is a chef knife.

2020 Toyota GR Supra Revealed!

There’s way more reasons why the 86 is a better every day car. One big one is that the forward visibility of the Supra is so poor...the hood is relatively high compared to the driver. Side visibility is poor. Rear visibility is poor. The car feels wide—it’s hard to grasp where the corners of the car are when parking or driving through tight spaces. It’s harder to get in and out of the Supra then the 86. But I’m okay with all of that because as soon as you get inside you’re focus still shifts to looking out the front and on the road. I’m not really a fan of the interior but I’m not even looking at it for 95% of the time I’m driving...

Hands down I would have the 86 as a daily driver. But I would still have the Supra as a weekend car.

BMW is planning a MT for a lower powered/lighter version of the new M3/4 aimed at the "enthusiastic" driver. So you never know, the thinking may creep into the Z4 range and beyond...

Does anybody know if the Supra qualifies enough as a BMW to get the free driving school offer with the purchase of a new BMW? In case anyone is not aware, BMW will fly someone out to the factory, put them up in a hotel and provide a day of driver’s track school on one to all of their three tracks with the purchase of a new BMW, but the buyer needs to request the gift at the time of purchase.
