Anyone order from topspeedautosport? They say they have silver in stock, and for cheaper than tirerack even. I'm just concerned they might email me after I order and say they are out of stock and they can't get them. http://www.topspeedautosport.com/pro...0--42-silv.htm Otherwise I have no problem with buying a used set, it's just difficult to find them. They don't seem to be very popular outside of the autocross community. |

I tried to call them, and got somebody that didn't speak much English. They went to find somebody to talk to me, but, after waiting for about a minute, I gave up. Makes me a little nervous, but may try and call a little later. |

I think I am just going to order from tirerack. Black is growing on me anyways.
Now for tires, 235/45 or 215/45 RS3 v2? I'm sure the 235 is faster, but this will be my first experience autocrossing on a good tire (I've been autocrossing for a few years, just never on good tires) so I wonder if the 215 may be easier to drive for me. Any thoughts? |

The 235/45 is a taller tire, it may help with tracks where you're up against the rev limiter, but you will be giving up a little bit of acceleration. The 235/45 is 25.4" tall, stock is 24.7" tall. I'm running a ZII which is 24.4", and occasionally I'm up against the limiter.

IMO, modest tire height changes are a pretty minor point. Maybe a taller tire keeps you out of 3rd gear on a couple courses a year, and maybe there's a tiny acceleration hit. I can't find weights anywhere but I wouldn't be surprised if the 235 is actually lighter, so there's also that.
But, to me, the most important thing is getting as much tire on the ground as you can and still get through a slalom. I'm on the 235s, and only because too many people told me the 245 squirms too much.

Do most of you guys have a separate set of track wheels/rubber, or are you dailying on your autocross wheels/tires? I currently have 2 sets of OEMs, one of which I planned on dedicating to winter/autox use. However, I've got a line on a decent deal for a set of 17x7 RPF1s.
My dilemma is that I know I will want to daily them too, because they look way better. I just don't know how I feel about using up my nice sticky tires driving daily. For those of you that do DD on your autocross tires, do you see a huge difference in tire life? How often do you end up replacing tires?

My friend daily drives his ZII's and won CS last year at the San Diego national tour. I try not to daily mine, but they're on the car right now because I had an event last weekend, and I have a practice and event this weekend. I know it's rough running 12+ events a year.

I daily mine. Changing tires for every event gets really old. But I only drive it about 6000 miles a year.

I'd be changing wheels for every event, since I have two sets. It's not a real big deal to me. But I'm debating if I'd be better served sticking with the two sets of OEM wheels, and investing the money I'd spend on the RPF1s into a Whiteline front sway bar and some Koni Yellows.
