Kill the weight.
I can still pedal the bike. Just because the derailleur won't budge doesn't mean the rest of the drive line stops working.

You're talking to a guy who does century rides or two weekly during the summer months and someone that had to walk 8 miles in cleats along el camino real to get home because of 3 popped tubes in a day and running out of 2 spares. Mashing on one gear is the least of my worries.

Well, from what I can tell the older generation turned to drugs and communes (and/or Canada) when they needed an out. Just couldn't handle all that negativity maaaaan.

P'shaw! I think we should go back to manual spark advance control, like classic Nortons had.

I'm hearing you, but having derailleurs denotes being able to shift. If you cannot shift, why not go fixie ?! Hey, it's lighter …. but not the ideal if you have hills/mountains to contend with.

I do ride a fixie, a Bianchi super pista to be exact, which is why I can still mash with the best of them at either the velodrome or on the street. As much as I ride, I still take the time to charge up the batteries and change the cells on my shifters. Again, running out of batteries has never been a concern on my etap bike. If i forget to charge my batteries, I have 3 other steeds running full mech from U8600 to DA9100 to Red22.

Well, the internet wasn't around so it's highly unlikely you two would be conversing at all, much less over something with a transmission of any variety.
