I debadged both the 'SUBARU' and the 'BRZ'

And also plasti-dipped the silver radio and dash trim to a chameleon color. I only had 3/4 of a can of black and didn't want to only have 4 light coats, so I found some chameleon to throw on top of it, ended up with 7 coats for an easy removal when I get tired of it.

Please excuse the fingerprints and the dust.

Took her out for some midnight dragon...she hasn't been driven in a month so time to burn out the fuel. +3 psi up front fools the traction control just a little.

Ok... I tried to do this earlier....

I went to the Big Dog car show to meet a new friend and I wound up winning the Import class!

#trackdaybro. Texas World Speedway. Hot as hell.

Got to try out my new rubber. Maxxis VR-1 255/40/17 on RPF1s 17x9 +35.

Tires were great. Grip for days. But I think I might have been faster with a 225--these fatties definitely slowed me down on the main straight.

Another problem was that I couldn't get enough camber. I rubbed a little on the passenger side when under load.

I also tried out using a gopro for the first time. Unfortunately the exterior view is blown out and you can hardly see. But I got a new PR!

Shortly after my fastest lap, I made a mistake. I lost focus and understeered right off the outside of T4. Pulled into the pits because it sounded weird. Took a look under the car, and:

Whoops. There goes the support bracket from my JDL UQFP.

Overall, it was a great weekend. Some glamour shots:

Destroyed the rear parking brake assembly... I was swapping on my street pads and replacing the rear rotors. Apparently there was a serious lip on the rear parking brake hats as even with it adjusted all the way loose the shoes caught the rotor and destroyed the retaining pin/clip assemblies.

Of course nobody local carries the parts, even if they claim they do, they can't even order them. F*ck you Advance Auto Parts, don't list parts for sale if you can't get them.

Had another friend with a supercharged Miata go with Maxxis VR1 and he loved them. Think he said they weren't quite as good as RE71R or Rival, but very good value. Do you have any other thoughts? How long were your sessions? Did the ever get slick when they got really hot? I may have to snag a set and give them a whirl when I'm due.

I haven't driven on either of those other tires, so I can't really compare. I've heard that they don't have quite the grip of the hero tires, but last longer. But that's just what I've heard.

They were definitely less expensive than other options, and seem to have held up really well for me. Sessions were 30 minutes in 95+F ambient temps. I aired them down to 30psi cold at first, and it wasn't enough--pressure got too high when hot and I lost grip. Kept fiddling with the pressure throughout the day. Once they were set up how I like, they held up just fine for the entire 30 minutes. Never noticed any greasiness.

That being said, I'm no pro, and this was only my 6th DE event. I might not have been pushing the tire as hard as others might. Also, I think on this particular track a 255 is too much tire for an NA 86. I wish they made them in 225.

Edit: they're also either fairly quiet, or I wasn't pushing them enough.

Wash, clay, wax.

I snapped a pic after removing the wax from only the front end while I still had sunlight.
