“I can’t disclose specific figures, but the output of this engine is on a par with that which we have with the F-Series from Lexus,” Tada said. The RC-F and GS-F make 389lb ft. He continued: “But you can imagine from seeing it that the car is light and compact – its wheelbase is even shorter than the GT86’s. It’s around 200-300kg lighter than the F-Series [which weighs around 1700-1800kg].”

Rumored weight: 1496kg (3298 pounds) - 40 pound lighter than the MK4 model
0-62 est: 3.8 seconds
i think AutoCar just gave us the high end of the estimate. 300kg - 1700kg = 1400kg or 3086 lbs.

here is what Moto had to say about the weight (3,100 lbs) along with some other things..

the hype is still building....though it is interesting to read that Moto says they will use carbon/composites yet Tada said "And we haven't used any carbon in the body of this car; it's steel and aluminium. And that's because as long as we're introducing a sports car under the Toyota brand it must be affordable." perhaps Moto is maybe referring to carbon roof/lip? weird inconsistency nonetheless..

im still praying for 3100 lbs..

the car is such a beauty! since the A80 was discontinued when i was a kid, i didn't think i'd ever have a chance to own a modern supra. I'm also really thankful and glad tada san is at the helm of the project because he's done such a great job with the 86.

New Supra 4 cyl to replace the 86?

Just saw an article by Road and Track that indicated the new Toyota Supra will come out also in a smaller, lighter, better handling, 4 cylinder version internally known as the GT86. It will have a BMW 4cyl turbo engine and a ZF transmission. If this is the new GT86, the current Subaru version will be dropped. Why else name it "GT86"? Given what we've heard about pricing on the 6 cylinder version, I expect the pricing on this to be in the mid to high 30's with higher end trims in the mid-40's.

Road & Track web editor Chris Perkins had the chance to speak with Supra chief engineer Testsuya Tada at the Goodwood Festival of Speed a few days ago, and the Toyota employee confirmed that there will indeed be a four-cylinder Supra. Tada also elaborated, saying the four-cylinder Supra will be lighter, with "much better weight distribution" and a sharper-feeling turn-in. Tada also remarked that, for the Supra owners who plan to swap in a 2JZ engine, "please buy the four-cylinder. It will be cheaper."

Looks like Tada finally confirmed the 2.0T option. Now if only we could get that with a manual...

I doubt it will be a replacement. And I doubt pricing will start that low.
