From doing some digging it looks like the plugs are a PITA to change but not impossible, I am thinking about going with lower temp plugs if i can. I will be contacting my service manager and having a talk. The minute I heard that they were required to change at 30k i was suspicious and looks like I was right to be.

Oh shit. It just occurred to me where the spark plugs are on this car. This is my first boxer engine.

@Anthony, yep... they are on the sides of the engine and not the top like we are used to lol. It wont be cheap but im betting a regular shop will still charge a bit less than the local Stealership

Oh I'll be doing them myself unless you have to have some sort of crazy ass tool to do it. Which I doubt you do.

You have to jack up the engine 2 inches.

Even the dealer doing it in 2 hours sounds a little fast.

I can do that. So you have to unbolt the engine from the mounts and then lift it 2 inches?

30k is rated at 4hrs on average and in this case including the plugs i assume. that is with the OP's dealer.

I'm at 27,600...and will be taking my car in at 32k because I went a little past on my previous service.

I just got off the phone with them and they told me it would be $659 for the 30k service. Some of the things involved in the service include oil change, change cabin filter, rotate tires, change brake fluid, something with rear differential fluid, and I think that's it.

I'm not very savvy with car maintenance, so can someone explain if changing the brake fluid and differential fluid should be $659? All the other things mentioned I know are super simple. What I'm trying to avoid is paying $650 for something I can get done for $200 somewhere else.

IMO, you're getting ripped off simply because you can do most/all of this stuff yourself for less.

If you buy a jackstand and jacks, then the right fluids for the various changes (engine, transmission, diff) you'd end up spending less money and have tools left over that you can use for the life of the car.

Just look up DYI's for this stuff and you'll see how easy (and relatively cheap) most of it is. Plus you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that it was done right.

I wasn't sure how involved any of this would be. If you think I should be able to DIY without putting myself at risk for screwing it up then I'll give it a shot. I just didn't trust myself messing around with transmission or brake fluid. Last thing I want is for my brakes not to work because I messed something up!

You can't put the car on a lift and change the plugs from underneath?

Are you asking me if I can do it, or if it's possible to change them from underneath?

I read that you gotta lift the engine or something. Read through this thread and I'm pretty sure someone said you needed to lift the engine.

I am asking, in general, if it is possible to change them while underneath if the car is on a lift. I have heard the same with boxer engines where you have to lift the engine, but I am pretty sure you do not have to in order to change the plugs. Might just be another method is all
