Coyote +36 would open up a lot of options for you and is still legal. If I go 8s I will go +30 most likely.

Im looking at getting some 17" Volk's eventually with bridgestone R002's and some form of lowering, better coilovers etc. Im i think i want to keep all the sizes about the same, im more after performance but im not really sure, im a bit new to this. Thoughts?

a 17x9 +40 won't stickout at the rear at all, and it's unlikely that it will stick out much, if any, at the front...
tye size and rim width fitment is an intersting tyre... If you use basic maths a 205 should be on a 8in... 8in is 200mm and a 205 tyre is 205mm

A Weds 17x9 only weighs about 400g more, but Weds USA did their special BRZ fitment as a +40. That'll poke out slightly on the rear and a mile at the front, so fail ... and that's one of the better ones!

I don't blame the retailers, they are just catering for what the market is asking for. I just can't believe there isn't a market for some nice, light, affordable 17x9 +45ish (that is, LEGAL) wheels.
I agree for rim size for that tyre, but those tyres he chose are 25lb each too don't forget...

Not blaming the market, WRX's have been out for 20 years now, not like this fitment is new....

They would both be illegal in Qld due to the track increase. let alone how far they'd protrude from the bodywork.

What are the specs of the car in that picture?

Also since people brought it up, the difference in tyre weight from 225 to 255 is less than a kg due to profile. You could run 18x9.5 and 255 with overall less unsprung than stock with the right wheels if you wanted to (not the kiwami).

I like the idea of lw 17s for track days but for my daily set I'll look at lw 18x8 or 9 with 225/235s.

I didn't forget that, but things like R1Rs and Pilot Super Sports weigh significantly less.

You could, if someone made the right wheels.

An 18x9.5 Forgestar F14 weighs less than a stock 17x7. They aren't expensive either ;-)

the problem with wide wheels in high offset:
1. is you will end up hitting suspension strut inside (depending on the car model)
2. cars that use this wide normally will end up getting the brakes upgraded (thats at least in japan) and will not work wih high offset
3. it is not cheap to make wheels and only a small market will buy this high offset unfortunately. work wheels for examples discontinued a lot of high offset wheels simply because no one buys them

you are right in the sense retailer and manufacturer will sell what the market demands.

Weight difference does depend on brand, model, etc.

Interestingly, I can save 2-3kg per tyre on the IS-F (same sizes), just by going to Michelin PSS from my Bridgestone RE050A's. That's huge! Worth paying attention to the weights!

Thanks Nix, but I want to use at least a 245 on at least a 9.

Front of that car is borderline too, even with skinny wheels and stretched tyres.

Ah right sorry, confused myself with your talk of legalities, as 235s are max legal tyre for 86 in SA.

Hmm I see plenty of space, remember its measured from widest part of the arch flare.

Yes my point though take the same brand/model and increasing width doesn't always mean adding much weight. And yes that is HUGE.
