I hope that the alcantra will be available, or then my heart has an argument for buying recaros and that is something my brain doesn't want to.

In Australia the 86 GTS comes with leather/alcantra seat inserts as standard and the BRZ has it as an optional extra.

I haven't seen the new ones in person but from pictures I'd prefer the silver stitching over the red.

Probably why it happened, then, guess some people wanted to avoid any racer-boy stigmas in their sports car. Why taste exists, of course, but I just feel like the cabin is really bland now with everything being dark. Just my feeling. I liked the little boxer logo on the fenders too, which they threw out in favor of the BRZ-like plain one and an 86 roundel instead. All the little things I liked were the things they changed.

That's the nice thing about the 86 outside the US. You guys get it in trim levels. Here, especially as a Scion, there were no trims, just the car with a few options to tack on, while the BRZ is the more upscale of the two with trim levels and more niceties. The 86 in the US is still the same way as far as I know, but they've increased the option list I think...and bumped the base price up at least a grand.

I like the darker interior, but I also like the FR-S red. I think it went darker to be a bit more "refined" when it went Toyota. Which is why I dislike the stupid fake-aggressive front end. It, even more than the FR-S front end, matches nothing on the rest of the car. Sad that they felt the need to include it, even more annoying how many people like the "new, aggressive look" which is all plastic-fantastic boy-racer bullshit. Eh, whatever.

Tcoat believes that the '18 86 will offer all the bells and whistles as options.

Well I for one, can't stand the new front bumper. To me it just looks like they made a giant catfish mouth, and then melted it with a giant heat gun so it turned out all wavy. The stupid smiley face on the BRZ isn't great but it's still much better and I really dig the fangs on the Scion, reminiscent of the 370Z.

Remember the time when everyone complained about the BRZ mustache, now it's Toyota's turn.

I wish I had press credentials that could let me reach the people behind the 86. I'd dearly love to know the reasoning behind the front end.

They told us why! It keeps the front end firmly planted to the ground.

Any word on if the 86 will have some sort of brake upgrade package as the new brz does?

No word yet. I think it's safe to assume that there will be some kind of special edition for MY17 though, it's just hard predicting what will be offered with that variant though.

At this point they might as well call it the 2018. Where are these cars?
