It isn't just the money that matters. Its having a fun and unique vehicle that no one else has, hense the premise of customizing imo.
Its kinda unique now, i'm one of the first 86 to get it, so i feel ya, but the unique factor is pretty much over, i see at least a couple a day (granted i keep my eyes peeled like a hawk for em and drive hundreds of miles a week for work all over so cal)

The fun factor will plummet if you cant drive it any more, half the fun is driving at 8/10ths

Plus reliability, if one is to spend 28k OTD on an FRS, then 7k on a turbo install and tune, then at least a few grand or so on wider rims and grippy tires, with all said and done you're looking at just shy of 40 grand for a high dyno number and questionable reliability.

Just buy a used 335i with a juice box :P

Ok, enough buzzkilling, anyway you guys are doing some amazing work as far as displaying the capabilities of the motor, so go for 1000hp if that's the goal of the experiment, but for the majority of people who have the money to shell out, we bought the car to drive it so livability is going to be the determining factor, not dyno numbers
Why would anybody buy a used BMW? People lease BMWs for 36 months and then turn them in to get another one. You don't keep a BMW after the warranty.

These guys are just proving that Subaru\Toyota needs to make a factory turbo engine...

And you can find new FR-S for less than MSRP, if you really look hard...especially this time next year...

A 400-500HP Reliable FR-S\BRZ turbo for less than $40k total in parts and labor is still going to be faster than just about anything out there less than $80lk.

Remember even with a turbo this car will be less than 2800 pounds...

I need a build that will give me a nice bit of power with near stock reliability. If we can get this stage 1 build of about 300 whp for about 7k installed and tuned and supporting mods for under 15k all said and done, i'd be interested. But i need to be able to redline daily and not have to worry im going to be stuck every few thousand miles. So until then, stock it is.

A bmw out of warranty vs a scion running an aftermarket turbo, sure i'd vote for the scion too LOL but dunno how much better off you are

But i agree that they need a factory turbo.

Especially the 335I we are talking about...those are poster childs for unreliability...

Lol so yes i agree first to 500hp is King in my eyes.....

Much respect to Don, he is a king in his own right... Atleast we have seen a few vids of his progress unlike others and he was the first that i know of to strap a snail to the 86/brz.......

500hp..... Reminds me of all those Supra Vs Ferrari/Murcielago youtube clips.......

Anyone worked out power to weight ratio if the 86 hit 500hp? Thats supercar speed no?
This car only needs 400whp and great tires to put in in Supercar straightline speed and acceleration territory. 400whp is about mid 11s 1/4 mile.

458 Italia runs 11.6 1/4 mile

In theory? Can u really calculate 1/4 times by just dyno sheets & weight of vehicle alone? Could come up with a ball park figure im sure but how accurate?.....

Asking, not questioning just so u know......

Yes you can it is actually very accurate assuming everything is running correctly and no gears are missed or bogged terribly.

Keep in mind guys, Toyota still has plans for a "supercar". And its not the FR-S... The car Toyota has in store in the future, not sure when, is suppose to make about 400hp with a 6spd trans and hit 0-60 in the mid 4 second range. This is meant to be a light tuneable fun car for the young enthusiast. I am happy that they even did such a great job with this fine car.

Good, so when it comes out, my non-supercar will be faster!

Thanks and yes ridiculously accurate btw!!!!

I figured gear ratios would effect it thats why i was unsure... like for example 4.11 diff gears vs 3.9's etc?

Very surprised.....

I've seen a lot of 1/4 mile times and I generally know by the power and weight of a car what it can achieve at the strip. I know there's that website and it does a decent job of predicting times for mostly stock cars but it's the more modded cars that you have to look at all of the factors for manually.

It's not hard to find a 2800lb car that's running 400 to the wheels for comparison. The 1/4 with a good driver is mid 11's. Assuming it doesn't have super sticky drag slicks, and 600 other crazy mods.

i just searched a few 1/4 calculators online..... They all offer different results?

For example if i type in Weight: 1250kg/2750lb & Whp : 400

http://www.torquestats.com/modified/...bmit=Calculate :11.94

http://robrobinette.com/et.htm : 11.07

http://www.torquecars.com/tools/quarter-mile-time.php : 11.80

http://www.measurespeed.com/quarter-mile-calculator.php : 11.01

Guess it depends on if the formula takes into consideration things like FWD, AWD, RWD....

lol, I stay away from those usually. The one linked above though is one of the better ones I've seen. If you are ever curious, just ask me, or use that calculator to get a ballpark idea of where a car will be in regards to its power and weight.
