Yuuuup. That's what mine was doing. $700 for a door latch IIRC :\

Haven't had any false alarms from the TPMS... yet. Clearly I wasn't thinking correctly when I thought that the water-cooled cars would be a lower-maintenance platform-- the maintenance just shifts from the powerplant to the gizmos :P

You could almost buy a replacement BRZ, based on my attempted selling experience :P

I’m reviving this old thread, I’m debating either 2014 ish Cayman base or a new BRZ.

Have driven the 2017 Cayman base with PDK but really want a MT and will be driving a 2014 Cayman this weekend with MT hopefully.

I did notice the BRZ was more visceral or just whatever you may say playful.

I did own both AP1 S2000 and E92 M3 so I can really appreciate both kinds of cars. Likely the Cayman fits between those two cars more near the M3 in price and luxury stuff, and the BRZ likely closer to the S2000.

I’m actually torn between what do I want? I will have another car so it won’t be 100% DD so I can live without some of the isolation and have some more NVH if it’ll be more fun on the weekend.

Plus the Porsch even while used 20K miles is still $12k more expensive.

I’m not debating that the Cayman is a better more overall package but the price is more than double what a similar used BRZ would cost.

I believe that I’ll love the Cayman as much or more but not sure if I want to spend almost $40K and I don’t want to get so old of a Cayman that I’m getting into the 6-7 year old car that would get me under $30K which is what a new BRZ would cost.

I think one of the best virtues of the BRZ is th value price compared to the Cayman.

Here is a nice video for those thinking that the PDK Cayman is better than the MT version:

I’d rather see the same driver on the track alone for 10 laps followed by another 10 laps in the other car rather than two drivers on the track together and compromising each other’s lines from time to time. I feel like that would be a more scientific approach. Otherwise you don’t really know if it’s the driver or car responsible for the win. My money is on the manual simply due to the weight savings. Only speaking of the road course though.

Why not a 2009-2012 Cayman? Hydraulic steering, 6 cylinder NA, and less cost and complexity. Seems like the best compromise if you seriously want a Cayman.
